blurb:

Hey there, readers.  This is terra, as I prefer to be called.  My goal with this blog is to create a place that gathers my stories, my translations, as well as a lot of the fanfiction I like.  This way, not only will people be exposed to topics they otherwise wouldn’t be, but it will also be sort of a repository for what I’ve learned, what I’ve accomplished, and what I’ve read/written.

This blog has always been sort of a dream of mine.  As such, I don’t really … care (to be blunt) that there exist other translations of what I’m hoping to do simply because I want to share my take on the text.  Also, I’m pretty slow.  Very slow.

I also hope to create a “trivia” section, where I can gather all sorts of information that can inform or inspire people.  This … will be slow in forming and will probably be very focused on one topic at a time (such as what I’m learning in school).

In my free time… … What free time?  Well, in my non-school time, I read fanfiction, write fanfiction, play games, write about games, translate manga (sometimes), and every week, work on my original story.

Hope you enjoy your time here?!

I am really interested in learning Japanese (both writing and speaking) >,<
I memorized Hiragana, but Im haven't started on Katakane yet and there's still Kanji @_@. Kanji is a $^%#&@$^%#…
Do you have any advice for a Japanese novice like me? ._.

I … uh. I don’t suggest you follow my method of learning Japanese. Yes, I learned by myself by (literally) too much anime, music, and manga. (I think the precise orders was … Digimon cards, song lyrics, manga + anime, novels.) The only books I’ve gotten area Japanese dictionary for the Hiragana/katakana chart (which I forced myself to learn by repeatedly translating Digimon cards??) and a simple grammar book.

Hm. I think I started around age 14. Translating around 16.

I don’t think you should worry about kanji at all. I had it easy because I already knew Chinese. The characters/meanings are different oftentimes, but the fact that I knew Chinese meant that I could pick up characters quicker than if I’d only known the western alphabet all my life. Fact of linguistics.

Advice … advice… My thought has always been that constant usage makes for learning. For example, when I watch anime, I don’t just read the subs. I actually listen for the patterns of the words ( ____ wo ___ wa ____) and, with my knowledge of grammar, work out the meanings that way. You pick up words quickly the more often you hear them (repetition, as evil as it usually is, is awesome here). Plus, once you start learning more words, it’s really nice to go “omg I know that word!!” and it’s kind of motivating, too.

I also suggest you don’t do what I did, and you should get an exercise book😄 Also, writing out the characters really helps. Not 5 or 10 times, but somewhere bordering 20+.

Jeezus, I think I gave you an entire history rant. Good luck on your learning! If you have more questions, feel free?!

that’s really interesting!! basically u are forcing urself to learn japanese bcoz of digimon xD. awh so it took u 2 years to start translating japanese?
ah well, kanji is easier if u know chinese, yeah… ><
I've watching anime for 3 years now but I did not really pick up words.. I guess I should learn the basic then use anime as listening and vocab practice, huh?:/
I am planning to learn japanese by myself coz it is expensive to take a japanese class, and apparently, it won't be enough to take only 1 japanese class.
Maybe it will take years to fully understand japanese :gonk:
but really, thank you for sharing!😀
I will definitely check the link u gave me! (after im done with my projects and exams @_@)

I’d just like to thank you for just translating in general (Lucky Dog brought me here)

and really you have become the inspiration to learning the language myself to become a translator myself! Currently working in Rosetta Stone 3.5 as well as looking up any local speakers that can help me a bit c:
(My friend is also learning, although she is learning Katakana first while I’m starting on Kanji @x@ IDK about this choice though >>)

Also I feel like I should tell you. I’m on a site called “Backloggery” where you input games info so you can be organized with the games you complete and need to 100% complete/beat. I input Lucky Dog and in the little ‘sidenote’ section I included a link to the LD page itself (The one with the giant letters of what not to do with your translations)
If you want me to remove this I will, in order to stay on the creators good side!

Oh wow, I’m… I’ve never been told I was an inspiration for anything/anyone before o_o

      How is Rosetta Stone? I’ve heard wonders about it, but I never used it (it costs quite a bit!). You should … probably start on hiragana, in all honesty. It’ll help with pronunciation and reading. Kanji is the hardest to start with unless you know Chinese. ^^;;

I’ve never heard of Backlogg- … No. Wait. This actually sounds familiar. I think I started using it once upon a time, but then I have an Excel spreadsheet that does the exact same thing, so it was kind of moot for me. And I have a HUGE backlog, as you might tell from the “game” section in almost every update. Thank you for linking me, though! I don’t mind one bit! As for the creators, they want to keep their game and CGs of it off the million-user sites – more specifically, I’ve heard them mention YouTube and Facebook. I’m sure NicoNico counts as well. A link to my blog isn’t quite posting up the CG, though, as they did give me permission to post my translation on the web. …It’s all a big gray area, but I think it’ll be fine.

Thank you for the lovely comment!❤

aksd;jfaskljdfl;kasjdf your WP address describes how I feel right now unf❤ Thank youuu~

It's rare that I get visitors to this page that aren't here for LD, though. …And just as rare that they're interested in visiting other pages of my site ^o^ I hope you enjoy it!

Advice… Advice… I have to admit that my method is pretty unconventional and pretty slow, but I guess the main piece of advice I can give is, make sure you give yourself lots of exposure. I mean, one way is to force yourself to read hiragana from shoujo manga (preferably not shounen, because you tend to get more jargon from them), or you could listen to songs that have clearer enunciation. Practice makes perfect, after all. But I think one of the biggest factors for me was that I tried to pay attention to what was being said as it was being said. For example, with the songs, I would read romaji lyrics and this helped me with pronunciation and how the words flowed. (If you have translated lyrics on the side, this will also help with simple grammar, provided the translator didn't get fancy with the translation. …Sorry, I do that ^^;) If with anime, I would read the subs, sure, but I would also listen for the Japanese and how the words are said and phrased. Though Japanese is a relatively emphasis-lacking language (as in, you don't have accents like in, say, Spanish), there is still a definite cadence on how words are said and separated from one another.

Of course, Japanese teachers would probably lynch me for suggesting to do those things, so if you're actually taking a class, be careful about what words you actually use (because of formal tense and all that) XDDD But listening to how the language "flows," for lack of a better word, can really help with learning new words, imo.

      …I got long-winded!!! Sorry😄 I hope this helps????!

        Thank you!
        It definetly helps!
Well im not taking any language classes but i am reading this book by Tae Kim
Its going over my head (•~•)
Its like a language guide from japanese perspective
So i have to start from scratch but Thank God for the anime and japanese songs im not that lost!
        Will definetly follow your advice.
        Thanks again!

I remember reading everything related to Giulio and Gian, There was one thing that I really an really obsessed with and that is the letter that Giulio writes to Gian while he is in jail. It was very cute but now I can’t find it. It says there is an error or that it has been removed.
