Durarara!! translations

Like Baccano!, this is a light novel series, so I’ll be doing translations from those.

Also like Baccano!, this has its own anime series, which spans 24 episodes and 1 OVA.  These cover the events of the first 3 novels.

Season 2 of the anime is coming soon, as of Spring 2014.

The novel series has ended at 13 volumes.

The two series are also by the same author, so expect same eccentric writing styles.  They also take place in the same universe, so there’s minor crossover (but not in the main novels, I think).

Durarara!! is a continuous story.  The first three novels set up the premise and gathers all the characters together, the fourth introduces more characters but is more or less a “break” or interlude before the big events that occur starting the fifth volume.  There are many, many characters in Durarara!! and you could write an encyclopedia on who they are and how they’re connected.  Narita has always been excellent in giving them each unique personalities, though.

Like with all other projects I’m working on, I doubt I have all the material related to the light novels.  As such, if anyone has short stories that come with the DVDs or magazines or other books and would like to scan and “donate” them, please do!  I’ll translate them as fast as I can.

Durarara!!

Summary:

Ryuugamine Mikado is a very ordinary boy from a very ordinary rural town.  So ordinary, in fact, that he wants to get out as quick as possible.  This wish is granted when he gets accepted into Raira Academy in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, where his friend is also attending.  He quickly goes and realizes that Ikebukuro is just about as strange as things can get.  There are men with superhuman strength, creepy informants who have ulterior motives, gangs distinguished by colored objects they wear, and a “colorless” gang that no one knows the truth about.  That’s not all, as Ikebukuro melds the real with the supernatural, as red-eyed serial killers and a headless rider abound as well.  Durarara!! is a “twisted love story” about the events and the people who live in this crazy city.

Disclaimer:  Narita Ryougo (成田良悟) wrote the books, and Suzuhito Yasuda (ヤスダ スズヒト) illustrated them.  I translated the books and (maybe) scanned the images.  I also own the books.  That’s it.

    please
Though if you don’t want to then I don’t mind

Mm, I’m glad someone’s interested. I was actually on the fence about this one since it seems to be done everywhere, haha.

After looking at every place, the vol.8 is actually the only on-going one (prologue so far).
If you ever translate it, you might go with the remaining volumes that have yet to be translated (vol.2, 3, 7, 8, 10 and 11). You would be my and many fans’ savior if you do~!! A lot of people are desperate to read them, honestly (I’m… ;o;).

Oh. Honestly, if I did it I’d start from the beginning (because I like completion and it’ll help me ease into the characters) but I’ll take what you’ve said into consideration.

You didn’t find translations on the tlwiki?

I’m fine either way, vol.2 and 3 haven’t been translated and I’m interested in seeing the differences between the light novels and the anime^^

Every group working on them dropped the project or went in an unlimited hiatus (T^T) To tell you the truth, you and the current person working on the vol.8 are the only people who are considering about taking over the project. I read spoilers about the later volumes (10&11) and felt so in despair to ever be able to read them as the series might come to an end soon.

Really? I thought a lot of people were doing Durarara… Is the other person anni_festa?

Well, the only problem with me doing it is that you’d have to wait for my other big project to finish, which may take a long while.

They’re all on hiatus, even anni_festa TToTT (she seems to be very busy and to have moved on another fandom…) That’s why I was counting on Yen Press’ DRRR!! manga sales to pick up the light novels.

It’s ok, I will wait as long as it takes~~

Please please please, translate durarara TAT
And particularly the books that aren’t translated yet… Each two of three volumes tend to have their own separated story lines, even though they are of course connected to the other novels. So please, if you can, fill up the volume 7 & 8 hole for all of us many many many fans who are so desperate for it.
Honestly, if I could read kanji I’d do it myself ._. Can’t though…
Anyway, here’s another fan desperately begging you for this translation ><

I’ve been remiss in responding to comments, so sorry for the delay.

      You have to keep in mind that I’ll only do Durarara!! after I’m done with my current project. I’ll take your comment into account, though. I was originally thinking of not doing it at all ^^;

Hello 🙂 I was wondering if you’re still considering translating the Durarara light novels, I would love to read the rest of volume 2 (it’s on hiatus) and the 3rd volume… I understand if you’re busy but I would like to know if you’re still considering doing the translation 🙂

I know you’ve stated otherwise but I hope you’ll reconsider starting from the beginning! Translations have left off after V6 and I’m dying to know what happens next…It feels like I’ll never know which would be a tragedy greater than death!

I beg you. I want to be able to read the novel 7. I am desperate to know that it will happen . If You can make a translation. I will be forever grateful.
Por favor. Barely I know some English, and nothing of Japanese. I was reading in English with translator the novel 5 and 6 that are not in Spanish yet, and in English the novel does not have 7 and 8, I can not wait any more. Por favor.
