Lucky Dog 1 translations

Lucky Dog 1

Summary: Life in jail is good for Giancarlo Bourbon del Monte. He doesn’t have to worry about responsibilities, life is slow, he’s friends with the guards… Best of all, he can get out whenever he wants since he’s the master at jailbreak. However, he’s also a member of Cosa Nostra CR: 5, and when 4 of the 5 caporegime are thrown into jail with him, he receives a letter from the Boss to break everyone out. If he succeeds, he’s the new Boss. If he doesn’t, well … he’s probably dead.  Hopefully, Gian will live up to his name as “Lucky Dog” and succeed!

Warnings: BL (or slash or yaoi), explicit content, dub-con, non-con, mafia action, guns of all shapes and sizes, knives, and some blood. I think I got it all. …Oh, and sometimes death.

Disclaimer: I may as well play it safe and put it right here, even though I think it’s blaringly obvious that Lucky Dog 1 does not belong to me. The characters, the dialogue, and the images do not belong to me. I just translated the text and stuck it onto a webpage with images to make it hopefully nice and pretty and readable. Lucky Dog 1 (and everything related, such as the short stories and drama CDs) belong to Tennenouji and Yura (由良) and, depending on the media, the wonderful voice actors. More details on the “Credits” page below.

In accordance to Tennenouji’s wishes, I will not be including the ending CG of the different routes. You can find them elsewhere online anyways.

** Beware of NSFW scenes! I’ve placed ample warnings before/after each link, so … click at your own peril?!

And a warning from me:

Do not use my translation to make patches for the game or use them for YouTube subs.

My desire to remain on friendly relations with tennenouji aside, making a patch exponentially increases the chance that this entire project be scrapped due to legal action. I have taken the pains so that you may read the script and still enjoy it just as easily as if you play the game alongside. Please respect my wishes as well as those of tennenouji, and allow this blog to remain online for the sake of other readers.

If you wish to use my translations for any (other) purpose, please contact me first. Due to my relations with tennenouji, there are strict limitations on what can and can’t be done.

Just wanted to say thank you so much for translating Lucky Dog 1! I’ve recently started reading the manga and got interested in the series, so it’s really great to be able to see the source material in English. You’re doing a fantastic job.

The menu is admittedly a bit of a mess. I couldn’t fit “NSFW” in because it would screw up the table, so I left the ** in. I’m looking into reformatting the whole thing, but I’m more interested in finishing Ivan’s route first.

Out of curiosity, are you planning on translating all the routes? Best of luck if you are! Translators deserve all the thanks they can get.

I love your translations. Can I ask that you do Giulio next? I read some spoilers from othersites and I think his is the sweetest. Ivan’s the cutest one though. Aww so hard to pick. Too bad Gian can’t be with them all at once. Thank you for translating. Oh do you know that your fifth like for when they thought the man was a woman doesn’t work? Oh and how many chapters are there? Four curiosity’s sake? And is there a true ending? Or just a bunch of possibilities?

I’ll try to answer your questions, lol. Tell me if I misunderstand anything?

The order I’m doing the game is Ivan, Giulio, Bernardo, Luchino. This is through following a walkthrough I’m using. Technically I could go in any order, but I’d like to keep things neat. So, you get your wish anyways =P

What do you mean by fifth “like”?

There are no exact chapters in the game. Those are purely my construct so I can translate bite-sized chunks and so users can find the scene they’re looking for easier. For a perspective, though, there are Parts 1, 2, 3. 1 is Prison. 2 is Escape. 3 is Daivan. 1 and 2 combined are the same size as part 3. Thus, I’m about 1/2 through with Ivan’s route.

Mm, what do you mean? True ending, as in, canon route? This is a hard question…

For each route (Ivan, Giulio, Luchino, Bernardo), there is a normal ending and a best ending (and numerous bad endings). However, none of these is the “canon” ending. The canon route is only revealed through the second Lucky Dog 1 game, called “Giancarlo’s Lucky Happy Life”, and is basically a route where Gian pairs up with NO ONE. This is also the route used in any of the non-pairing Lucky Dog short stories (official ones). (Interestingly, every one of them luvs Gian, so a pairing is still possible.) But no, this route is not included in this visual novel that I’m translating.

Essentially, you have four, non-compatible routes (ie, if the events in one route happens, the events in the other routes cannot happen).

      I hope this answers everything.

      Thanks for the comment 🙂

That … is the one thing I don’t remember clearly, and this is actually because I’ve played the game twice already (and not “in spite of playing it twice”)… But if memory serves me right, the difference between normal and best differs for each route.

In Ivan’s case and Luchino’s case, it should be a different scene. I forget what the one at the end of Ivan’s is, but I believe it’s slightly different. You get an additional scene, too, in the best route.

In Bernardo’s case, it’s more a plethora of bad endings vs. a happy ending.

In Giulio’s case, it’s more … bad ending, best ending, so the two are completely different.

(This is assuming you follow the walkthrough and get all of the other scenes, or you’ll be missing scenes at the end, too.)

Thanks! Hope you enjoyed reading, btw.

    When you start the next character, will you do Giulio’s or Bernardo’s route? There is already an Ivan and a Luchino translation I’ve found, but no where is there an English version of Giulio or Bernardo. It would make me so very happy. ;3;

I don’t know if you’ve ever played Miracle Not-on, which is the other game by tennenouji, but it had an expansion pack too. Basically, it takes the original game, adds some scenes to each route, possibly adds an epilogue to each route, and adds some new routes (and new characters) altogether, all the while keeping the original game intact.

Bad egg is the same thing, an expansion pack for Lucky Dog, with extra routes covering Gian as a GD member. Don’t know how he got there (thought Lucky Happy Life seems to contain some hints), but… fun times. It was supposed to come out two years ago, but there’s been delay after delay. Here’s to hoping it comes out late this year!

I don’t know where there is a Giulio route done online. One of the reasons I chose this game was that there are no (complete) translations for this game online XD

I will be doing Giulio’s route after Ivan’s. Lol, you’ll have to check yourself when I get started. You can choose to follow the blog and it’ll alert you by email when I make posts. When I start Giulio’s route, I’ll definitely make a post with something akin to “OMG GIULIO’S ROUTE” or something in the title, so that will probably be a warning to you, lol XD

I was reading the manga and I went, “Must find translation!!!!” Google was my friend and found me one, but it was all jumbled up and I had no idea where the hell to start. Your translations are WAY better and a lot more organized. It’s so interesting reading through everything. Jeez, it may be a BL game, but the plot’s amazing and there aren’t that many scenes.

I love how the manga draws new ppl to the game. That means its doing its job =3

The plot was what got me liking LD a lot in the first place. Yes, it has great characters, but many visual novels do, too; what separates LD seems to be that its plot is actually really really good, too. Like, a mix of plot-driven and chara-driven.

Uh oh, you set off a rant XD Thanks for reading!

          This… how to put this.

There is no supernatural side to Gian’s luck. The little black nightmare …goo? is really all just artistic interpretation. A physical manifestation (for us to see) of the creeping bad luck. Gian lives off of instinct and a “feeling” of luck, but there is no supernatural aspect to it.

It’s something that’s always bothered me about the manga. I personally hadn’t realized there was this interpretation of the manga art until someone pointed it out in the forums, even. (And while we’re on the topic of manga differences … Gian’s not insane.)

          …End rant. XDDDD

I’m super late to hop on the bandwagon, I know.

I find it funny how Gian’s luck isn’t anything supernatural in the game when the theme song “Don’t Lose Luck” seems to hint that Gian err… used that magic touch of his to earn the great luck from some creature that crawled up from hell? Which allows Gian to live as he wants and… persue the other characters? XD

I could be hearing things completely wrong and the meaning of the lyrics are probably lost in translation, but having this interpretation in mind makes the manga’s luck portrayal infinitely funnier in my opinion. It would be as if the luck manifestation is said hell creature our main character had a fling with in the song and it grants Gian the luck to have a cushy life/ go after other men (a luck he’s had since childhood at that), but the luck manifestation creature gets fits of rage with Gian’s choices sometimes- which is what causes all the “bad luck” leading to the bad endings.

I know I’m reading Way too much into this but it certainly makes for an interesting crack theory, right?

You just made it sound like … I don’t know, Hadaka Shitsuji or something XD

There is no “late” when it comes to hopping on a bandwagon =P I started this translation 2-3 years after the game was released XD

My personal headcanon is that Gian IS a demon but doesn’t know he is, and that’s why he’s so lucky, but … hey. Headcanon XD I’m surprised you could understand anything the opening song was saying, though … even if you DO have the lyrics >_> The lyrics certainly don’t make things more understandable…

In canon, I think Gian’s luck is (when it comes to dealing with others) having good karma. If you’re nice to others, then others are more likely to be nicer to you. …Or, rather, if you don’t make stupid choices, then it won’t come back to bite you later XD

Have you read the short stories (SS) yet? I think you’ll get a kick out of the short bit I did on Demon’s Ringlet.

Funny you mention Hadaka Shitsuji. I always felt it would have been a million times better if those with Kamishiro blood got their wonderful lifestyle through a Faustian deal that got passed down each generation- and that the demon disguised himself as a butler (said butler was headcannon’d Mizoguchi). That way, the true end would have the demon reveal himself and give Tomoaki a taste of his own medicine. The way it did end left a few minor things unanswered, but I guess that’s what the fandisk is for… plot-hole filling… not other hole filling.

As for the song, I just adore yanki-like accents/ kansai-ben English (akin to how I get a kick out of engrish). I first heard the song during the escape scene and I listened to the loop until I figured out most of the lyrics. I looked up the lyrics because I wasn’t sure what the “I live my life in someone’s spirits” sounding line was… which they claim is “thrills and spills”. Makes more sense but I still hear “spirits”. But at least I now know Gian’s freedom is to “choose then”, not chew them.

D= I have not read the short stories yet! I definitely intend to sink my teeth into them, but I haven’t in fear of possible spoilers (Luchino route past escape/100% complete ending). I have this problem where I like to speculate all possible details upon given the very minimal of information. That’s why I prefer the medium of visual novel to say TV shows or movies- there’s more than one ending, and it’s usually the small details that determine the character’s fate. I don’t always catch the upcoming twists if there is little foreshadowing. Of course, visual novels tend to give away everything in their opening movies- so I always have to skip them until I complete the game. If I see, I will figure it out~ And if I figure it out, clicking through the game becomes hell for me *coughsweetpoolcough*.

I love how Gian’s luck isn’t supernatural, but still brings about great moments where you can’t halp but think: ‘If he wasn’t lucky, what would have happened?’, and then smile about what did happen. There’s usually only minor differences in the what if and what happend. The bad luck personifications in the manga are actually a nice addition, in my opinion. Instead of Gian’s lengthy monologes, (which can’t be fully represented in the manga,) they help bring about the right atmosphere.

When I’d finish it? …Hah. That’s funny. Uhm … I am currently about 1/8 done with the game, and I’ve been working on it for 4 months. However, I should be going faster over the summer. My goal for the end of the summer are Ivan’s and Giulio’s routes. Maybe start on Luchino’s. (Don’t hold me to this. I’m guessing.)

Thank you for your great work. I really like your translations. Sometimes they aren’t literal, but they still hold the same meaning, which is awesome (because after all, sometimes literal translations in English would just sound.. well, odd).

Again, thank you for your hard work.

P.S. Also, I can not wait for you to start translate Giulio’s route.

It’s nice to hear feedback about my translation from someone who knows Japanese (even if you say it was only the spoken parts).

Yeah, that’s the easiest trap to fall into. I value close translations above all, but that’s not always the literal one. It’s actually more often a close translation of the “feel” rather than the “words.”

Interestingly, if this is applied to official video game translations, fans get angry more often than not =P

I got mine from the visual fanbook, do you’ll have to find scans if you want to use mine.

There’s also another walkthru online at half-a.net/games1/dojin/luckydog1.html. I hope this helps! I forget, it may not get you all 100%, but it definitely will get you all the endings. Enjoy!

OMG!!! I’ve totally fallen inlove with your LD translations! Thank you so much for your hard work on translating LD 🙂 (bow) I read the manga but the chapters are coming out a bit slow and that’s driving me crazy so your translations are something like some sorta medics for me :D:D Is Ivan’s route over or do you still have some work on it ? …. Anyway I’m looking forward to the next part or the next route 🙂 Good luck 🙂

Hi, First I wanted to give you a huge thank you for your awesome translation that helped me seriously with the Ivan route since I kept getting the bad ending until I found this. Second I would like to say I love your youtube page too which i found accidently….um, oh I hope that doesn’t sound stalkerish >.<

Third um…and this is probably a retarded question but um, well I was wondering if you could tell me hos to get a perfect score on the Giulio arc….I have it up to 82 percent and I am not sure how to get the rest…also, there are two cg's for Giulio I keep seeing on the internet and I don't know if they are real but if they are, I don't know how to get them x_x

One is of Giulio laying with Gian's bloody covered body and the other is of Giulio poking a a sleeping Gian's cheek…if you know how to get those and if it wouldn't be to much trouble, would you mind explaining it? Um and if you need my email to keep from spoilers, just let me know!

So, well, thank you in advance even if you can't help and I am super excited to see if you do the Giulio translation since next to Gian he is my favorite character!

Hello. Thanks for reading! And no, that’s not at all stalkerish. My level that marks “stalkerish” has lowered considerably recently. XD

I will reply to you in the email for the CG question. I’m going to assume your email is the one you provided when you commented? The question is a bit spoilerish, but eh. This is a long topic. No one’s going to find it unless they’re seriously looking for spoilers XD

As for the 100%, I believe that the percent isn’t just filled on Giulio’s route, but rather whenever Giulio talks … which includes other people’s routes as well. The same goes for the others. The only scenes that don’t have anything to do with % are some of the prison scenes when you’re not talking to the characters (examples being the Bad Ending 1, the extra talk you get with Homer or the Guards…).

I love how Gian is everyone’s favorite =) Usually in these games, people don’t like the main character.

      Thanks for commenting, too =)

Gian is so awesome, it makes me happy to know he is loved by everyone! Thanks for explaining the % thing! I have to admit, the luck % makes me laugh sometimes with how it goes down then up suddenly….it was especially funny on the Giulio arc leading up to the last few events CG’s.

I guess this just means I’ll have to keep playing! Um…if it is okay, if I run into anymore problems….is it alright to ask again? I don’t want to be a bother since you are probably busy but um, I’ll leave the comment and you can answer if you feel like >.< or not….?

Anyway, thank you for being incredibly awesome and posting all of this and answering my weirdness! -bows over and over- Thank you~

Feel free to ask. I’m also here as the talking LD walkthrough guide XD

The only thing I can’t help on is exactly where to get all the %. The general guideline is all good, all normal, and all bad ^^; (self-explanatory, that is, probably…)

Also, a random thing. With Luck it’s a good idea, generally, to keep it high. However, with each character, the optimum Omerta varies.

I really wanted to play LD1 but my translator gave me nothing but wonky sounding dialog so I ended up giving up playing it (because I can’t read Japanese). I know there’s another site translating the manga but I really wanted to read the original game routes and now I can! My only sadness is that you’re not to Bernardo yet (he’s my absolute favorite character for many reasons) but there’s a lot you have gotten to so far and he’s next on the list after Giulio so I can’t complain too much. In the fist chapter the one with the prison i can never get Luchino or Bernardo as the first partener only Gian or Ivan. How do i get them?

Hello! Thanks for reading =) I’m glad it’s been helpful for you.

I’m guessing this means you want to start out on either the Luchino or Bernardo routes? Here’s an online walkthrough: http://half-a.net/games1/dojin/luckydog1.html and just follow the instructions in yellow following the corresponding name. You’ll have to play “match the symbol,” but otherwise, it should be easy. Also, remember that “ルキーノ” is Luchino and “ベルナルド” is Bernardo, so you can use those to find the guide headings.

I hope this helps? If you have any more questions, do ask =)

There are a Luchino and Bernardo scene each that you need to see for 100%. They’re kind of hidden and appear in part 2. You’ll need a detailed walkthrough for that. I’m planning on writing something up for this anyways, so check back later.

And also, the bad endings DO count for 100%, but not the Gian bad endings (the ones in prison).

      Hey,

      Thanks for the suggestion. I haven’t thought about it before making a .pdf before, but I think I’d prefer to keep the translation under wraps. I’ll admit that I feel that if I release a file of my translations, it’ll make it all the easier for people to use it for patches or whatnot, so keeping it online like this is a sort of an purposeful-annoyance measure to semi-deter people. ^^;;;

That being said, I can make one (just not post it up). If you really want one for offline use, I can compile one, but it would only be a script, with no images. I add images directly through HTML / WordPress. ._.;; Sorry…

        Well… I can understand your reasons (security is first, after all). I was hoping because sometimes the internet at my place is… crappy, to say the least. I got cockblocked a lot ‘coz the connection is so unstable. ^^;

However though, I don’t mind even if it’s just words with no images. In fact, I can just read it like a novel. And it quickens load time too. :-))
sometimes when I travel (by bus for example) for hours on the road at a time, I would like to read this too. 🙂
        No worries though! I don’t intend to use the translations as anything more than personal use. ^^;

Unfortunately, that would be difficult because I don’t know how many pages the scripts for Luchino and Bernardo’s parts are. The person who pulls the scripts for me hasn’t done so for those parts yet.

If I had to take a really, REALLY rough guess, I suppose I’m at … 40% right now? Maybe? Perhaps…??

I’m currently reading the Manga and wanted to play the game, well you know what happens when you don’t know japanese and trying to play a game in japanese, all I could see was Kanji/hiragana/katakana and I almost killed myself because everything was so confusing and didn’t understand what to do next.
So I kind of searched all over the net to see if someone translated it and found you guys 😀

Please try the credits site (it’s linked on this page) later this month. I know its not very clear, but it has some instructions on it. Currently tennenouji are doing maintenance on their store until the tenth of May so it won’t bring you anywhere, but after that, their site should have a list of Japanese sites that stock their game. A couple ones I remember are Animate, Tora no Ana, and Stellasworth. If you want, google them and search for Lucky Dog.

Also, please try Yokattaweb’s shipping service. They’re reliable and fast and relatively cheap compared to other services. They also know English so if you just go “Lucky dog 1 from animate please” they’ll know what to get you and they’ll give you a quote. That should help.

Thank you much for supporting the game! Let me know of you have any more questions.

Hi, just found this now, and I was so happy to see that you’re translating Lucky Dog 1 🙂 Thank you for that ❤ I was wondering though, I want to play the game and read the translations at the same time. Like instead of repetitively switching between windows for each line that is said – Is there a way to resize the window containing the translation and move it to the bottom of the game window? Then, be able to scroll down the translation window, while keeping the game window open to click on to see the next line?

Hope that makes sense, as I wasn't sure how to word it 😛
    Thanks!

      Hello, thanks for your reading!

I’m assuming you don’t just mean “resize your browser so that it fits beneath your game window?” Do you mean whether I can make the translation appear in a smaller popup window? That, … I’ll look it up, but I’m not sure I can.

Maybe others would know better? I know about half this blog’s readers follow the translation with the game.

The next route is Bernardo, and then Luchino, and then the random shiznit I missed in-between.

Speaking of, you can find some ways people are using the translation and the game at the same time on the main page’s post’s comments.

For an estimate, Ivan’s route took a year. Giulio’s has thus far take. 1.5. If I had to estimate, the rest will take, unfortunately, 2.5 years at this rate.

And oh wow, it’ll take that long? omg I hope my interest in lucky dog won’t fade by then :O Hmm wouldn’t it be easier for you to just translate the game, without screenshots? I know it makes it nicer, but wouldn’t it be faster not to? Like for example:
    Gian:____
    Ivan:___
___ etc and that’s it (just words, no pictures)?

It would take so much, so much less time. However, as one of the commenters in the post put it, it can help readers keep up with the translation. There are many (about half of all the readers) who don’t even play along with the game. The reason I did it was because, reading some translation scripts in the past, I know that reading just script can be so holy crap boring.

The holdback, update-wise, though, is still translating the text. Generally after I finish a set of chapters I do the screenshotting and HTMLing in 1-2 days immediately, so comparatively, the wait is with the actual translation.

aww but for those who bought the game, they’ll have to wait forever D: I understand for those who don’t have the game, but still 😦 Maybe, you can decrease the amount of screenshots you use? Or if you just posted the translated script, it’ll encourage more people to buy it, then? Idk, but playing the game while reading the translation, really enhances the all around experience 🙂
Hmm, would you be willing to just make a just a written translation of the rest of the game and then add screenshots afterwards?

Considered it, but like I said, the majority of the wait is still with translating so you wouldn’t be getting the scripts all that much earlier.

I totally agree that playing the game is the only way to get the full experience, including the awesome voices, but if you think just putting up script would increase purchases… xD People are more likely to download than buy lol.

Dumb question but is it possible to get the full experience of this game even while not having played through all routes?
I’m asking because I’ve encountered a lot of visual novels there it was necessary to play through all routes to get the whole story of the game since every route revealed another part of the plot.
Is this the case here as well or can the routes be considered as “stand-alone” ?

You’re talking about a “True” route. Togainu no Chi has one, as does Sukisyo and a few other games.

Lucky Dog 1 is unusual in that it does NOT have a true route. The routes are all mutually exclusive (some events happen in one route which prevents the events in another route from being possible) too, so it’s not like you can say “What happened in Ivan’s route is what happens to him while you’re playing Giulio’s route.”

Umm hello, sorry for asking this but I was searching through the internet and came onto your reply about Togainu no Chi having a true route.

        Warning! Might contain slight spoilers:
From what I know it is known the true route is Shiki’s “good” ending, yet a few people say it is Nano because it is the last (kind of, you have to get Shiki’s good ending first) route you get.

Since I was interested in this I came upon people saying that the company has stated that Shiki is the true ending. Also, I came upon japanese guides that also said it was Shiki’s.

You seem to know more things about the game than I do so I thought you might know more about Togainu no Chi’s true ending…Is there a confirmation from the company that it is Shiki’s?

Thank you and sorry for bothering!

          Hey, Togainu editor here;

In the PC game data. Nano’s ending is referred to as ‘true’, while Shiki’s endings are referred to as ‘bad1’, ‘bad2’ and ‘good’.

Shiki’s only considered the true path in the PS2 port. One of his new endings now has ‘True’ instead of Nano’s ending.

Thank you both of you for your replies!

In the PC Game data…? Really? I see. May I ask where it is exactly? I never saw a ‘True’ indication anywhere, no matter how many times I searched. :/
Even in the official guide by the company, I saw N’s ending being referred to as N’s ending and Shiki x Akira being used as the main logo of the game (more or less). I have played the PC Game only. I think I will check again. I am glad you told me so that I can re-check.

It sounds as if they changed to making Shiki the True Ending…

And indeed, N’s route gives you a lot of information. You are right. Yet I feelShik’s route gives you more but this is me. Akira learns about his blood in Shiki’s route and who II Re is. N plays a role in Shiki’s route as well, whereas is N’s route, Shiki (who is the second main after Akira) appears like twice. So it seems unreal to me…but this is my personal opinion.

Thank you both for sharing, it is interesting to hear other people talk about this.

PC Game data as in, the code. You wouldn’t find it by playing the game.

Shiki x Akira is used as the main logo because, quite frankly, Shiki is the most popular character in the game and N+C now love him for it XD

(My personal opinion is that Shiki’s “True” indicated Shiki’s true ending, as opposed to the game’s, but that’s just my personal opinion. It does fit the bill if you consider that Akira actually achieves what he came for only in Shiki’s ending and you learn more about how Shiki fits into Igura.)

Akira learns about his blood in almost every route, if I recall correctly, but certain details that tie into his past are only learned in n’s route. As for Shiki being second main… Man, I feel bad for Keisuke XDDD Shiki is most popular, but there is no real second main character, no matter how much fans want him to be ;P Look at it this way; while Shiki’s route may be richer / more popular, n’s route gives you a view of the bigger picture beyond the game – moreso than Motomi’s or Shiki’s or even Keisuke’s route (Rin’s route … I don’t remember much about him but I think he was the least connected in the game ._.). I haven’t played Shiki’s non-PC route, but from what I hear you learn a crapload there, too – but it’s more about Shiki’s involvement than about everything that’s going on. That’s why I’m still standing by my “n = true route” stance.

…To be sure, I’m pretty sure N+C says none of this officially.

…Now I want to play TnC again ><

Ahh…I see. I did not know about this, thank you 🙂 I wish I could see it somehow without destroying the data lol.

So…if this is the original code it sounds as if they had N in mind first, and then changed it to the True End to Shiki in PS2 and everywhere else basically…(the manga kinda follows Shiki, Shiki has a drama CD unlike N, the logo thing etc).

May I ask which is the true ending of Shiki’s in PS2? If anyone knows the answer (maybe Debono9 does? His/her answer was really helpful about the game data.)
I would like to know whether or not it’s his similar, supposedly “True Ending” of the PC Game (his so-called good ending otherwise).

You certainly have your points about Nano. In my opinion, he’s the route that makes the most sense after Shiki’s.
Akira learns about his blood in all of the routes other than Rin’s I think… (I am not counting the ‘game over’ routes).

Shiki’s “True”…? I am sorry, I do not know what you are referring to :/

From what I got from the whole confusion about the True Ending, people say it is Shiki, either because there was some official document which we lack of, or because of the change the company made with PS2 etc.

I am trying to download and play the PS2 version now using an emulator…Hope I manage. 🙂
                The PC Version was awesome.

It depends on which manga. The Suguro manga is more of a general adaption with bits of everyone’s route. The Yamamoto manga follows Keisuke’s route.

It’s all pretty much popularity and ways to sell in my opinion. They knew Shiki was popular and so he got the most additions. On the Togainu livejournal, Dagger described his changes as:

“In the new Shiki route, Akira actually manages to challenge Shiki as the Il Re (it’s the only route in either version of the game where he does what he came to Toshima to do in the first place, haha). Shiki is impressed enough by his persistence to tell him that he can be the Il Re if he wants it that badly… it’s not like Shiki really cares about it.

It branches in two near the finale. In one path, Shiki kills Nano, and Akira follows him as he leaves Toshima. This leads to a pre-coma ending. In the other, Nano never shows up for Shiki to kill him. Akira escapes Toshima by himself and spends the ensuing years constantly chasing after Shiki, his only goal being to find and kill him. Shiki shows up in the epilogue, and they start fighting again.”

They also added in 2 fight scenes (Shiki vs Punishers + Shiki vs Keisuke) and converted one of Shiki’s short stories to be included in the game.

In the game files, the epilogue ending is now considered ‘True’. (My theory as to why is because Akira is no longer the hunted, he’s now the hunter. The one with the power.)

However due to the type of game it is, anyone’s ending can be true. I’ve seen people consider Motomi’s ending to be the ‘True’ path just because they prefer his route and ending to everyone else’s.

Thank you and sorry for the many questions.

Yes, it depends on the manga. All I know is that in the first one I think it leans more towards Shiki, implying his sex scene with Akira in the bath.

                    Thank you for the analysis!
I looked around and I figured that Shiki saves Akira by killing Keisuke in one and then I think is where the split comes in depending on your choice.

From what I got, Akira loves Shiki in all Shiki endings, I never thought that he actually wants to kill or actually hates Shiki. More like a love/hate thing.

So…the True Ending on PS2 is the one where he and Shiki are rivals? I thought it was the “coma” one.

Togainu no Chi Livejournal is…made by fans, no? This is not from an official interview I mean.

Perhaps. There are different opinions and all are respected.

From what I searched there is either a mistake and Shiki on a wheelchair is actually the true ending meant on the PC game, or it is N’s and they changed it due to Shiki being the most popular since it seems the official pairing is Shiki x Akira according to the company’s doings.

The togainu livejournal has summaries of the new PS2/PSP content, its easier then me trying to remember it all (+ my kanji isn’t 100% the greatest).

One of the Togainu artbooks has information on Shiki’s route explaining that his PC route was all about ‘Domination’ (ie it’s not meant to be taken as love). With the changes in the PS2/PSP edition they seem more lovey. I wouldn’t say completely in love but…theirs less domination and more Akira finding his own strength/power. It’s also shown in the Yukihito route where the ending implies they’re dating (and Akira is taking an active role rather then his previous passive self)

In the PS2/PSP edition the coma ending is now just another bad ending. You need his new good ending (not true ending) to unlock Nano (the ending where Shiki kills Nano). In essence, for the PS2/PSP edition the Nano route solves the main storyline while the Shiki True ending gives Akira that development to become a better person while completing his mission.

The popularity issue is why I believe it was changed. Nano was meant to be the true ending but he wasn’t very popular. Instead Shiki’s popularity soared and so when it came to making the all ages changes, they looked at what fans wanted. Since his route required the most changes anyway (the first 1/4 to first 1/2 is adult material lol) they adapted the SS’s, made some endings happier and added in a new Shiki branch where Akira finally accomplishes his goal and becomes stronger because of it.

                    But yeah,
PC edition = Nano is technically ‘True’ based on the scripts
PS2/PSP edition = Shiki rivals ending is technically ‘True’ based on the scripts
It’s all about what sells pretty much. Shiki wasn’t intended to be the true ending but merchandise with a Shiki theme sells so they ran with that rather then Nano. 🙂

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, I’ve been a little sick. :/

                    Ahh I see.
As for Shiki, I meant that he loves Akira in a non-healthy way, because as you said, yes, it has to do with domination etc. The CD Drama 1 explains Shiki’s feelings and fascination with Akira much better.

Thank you a whole lot for your information! I am just surprised how come Japanese sites seem to name (not all of them necessarily, but at least the ones I found in Japanese) Shiki’s Good End as the True End. Then again, it might be exactly as you said: the company changing from Nano to Shiki because of the latter’s popularity. They might have announced something too but who knows. But yes, Shiki’s popularity is driving them now it seems. Not that it’s a bad thing or anything.

Please do not get me wrong; the information you gave me was really helpful and I greatly appreciate it. 🙂 Thank you a whole lot again! It helped a lot!

          What debono said.

To me, the “true” route has always been a designation, whether by fans or officially, that may indicate which ending is “canon,” but more importantly it 1. Makes you work for it (ie, usually being the last route – the truest for last, etc.) because 2. The true route tells you the most about the “truth.”

I feel the “true” part tells you more about either the truth about the main character, not covered in any of the other routes, or about the setting and world. You uncover all the cobwebs and learn (almost) all the dirty secrets behind whatever world you’re playing in. For example, in n’s route you learn about Akira’s blood and why he’s in the game in the first place as well as some info behind the Igura itself and Akira’s history. His routes sort of ties the entire game together.

…But anyways I digress. In short, what debono said XD

Sorry to bother again but I wanted to ask your opinion on a program called visual novel reader.
You may have already heard of it but, in summary, it is a program that allows one to display text on the game screen like subtitles without needing to hack the game or change game files.
The problem with it, as far I can see, is that the inserted text is accessible for editing to the whole community but if there was a way to bypass that would it be an alternative option to use your translations without breaching Tennenouji’s conditions?

No, I had never heard of it. Thank you for bringing it up to me.

It is in tennenouji’s interests that people buy the game. With patches and YT videos, that would hypothetically decrease the audience that would buy the game. There are other options to this that have been brought up to me on this, but this is all I will say on that part for now. I am not sure what their stance will be on this.

That aside, I will say that I am not familiar with how VNR works. If the subs are uploaded as a whole document, then I would not be comfortable just letting the translation float around on a cloud for obvious reasons. On the other hand, if the subs are inputted manually (as this site seems to show) then … uhm, can we wait to think about this after I finish more of the game? That looks really … long. And manual. Unless someone has tried and found that LD works with the automatic method. ._.

Looks like there’s more questions to be asked… Gh.

No problem, there really isn’t any need to rush discussing this.
But if it is of any interest to you, I found out about this program through the translation project of “Black Wolves Saga”. The people translating this game have decided on this method with one of their reasons being that they want to diminish piracy ; )

(Note: This is not a translation of their email XD)

      Their answer is basically:

Because you already have a game (we’re going to assume it’s purchased for all our sanity’s sake), you may play the game as you like, however you like. This includes subtitles. (This is because you are not affecting their sales with VNR; you have already purchased the game, whereas with YT vids and rampant CG packs running around, people might be like “Oh, we’ve already seen the game. No need to play/buy it.”)

      Quote:
We think having this setup that allows people to work together to interpret and decipher the words is a wonderful idea 🙂

      PS:
(Please do not poke too hard at any points I bring up here. Big Brother is watching :O )

Of course it’s still your decision whether you want to use the VNR, at all, but I think it’s great that now you, at least, know that there’s an additional option available.

Waaaa~ Thank you sooooo much for translating this! You make my days, really =w= I have trouble reading kanji, and this translation of yours is soooo helpful~

Actually I’ve been reading your translation for months but was too lazy to leave a little tiny-bity comment. Anyway, I’m waiting for Luchino’s OwO7 Hope you can translate it real soon~ I’m excited with that one but I can’t understand all of it so, yeah

Oh, and I wanna ask you about something. Will you translate the Drama CDs? There are some words I don’t understand. And the LHL as well. (Thought, I don’t know how to translate LHL so it can make the readers understand. It’ll be easier to if there’s an english patch, but yeah, I know that’s a big no ._.)

LHL may be a problem, but by the time I get started on that it may work itself out. I’m currently thinking of just doing a route space by space (since it’s a board game) from start to end with links to mark how far ahead you’ve rolled. Like, if you rolled a 1 click this link, a 2, that one, etc.

I do plan to do the drama CDs, but as I mentioned elsewhere I’ve realized that translating text >>>>>>> faster than me listening to script. I’ve been working on one actually. Someday I’ll post it when I’m happy with it =p

Thank you for reading XD I’m glad the translation was of help!

That’s it. LHL is a real problem, yeah. Think it will take a lot of your time. That’s actually a good idea to add link based on number. But, argh. That’s mean 12 links on each. (The items are kind of giving translator hard job)

Yay~ I really want to read Bakshi’s Comi Special translation. I kind of understand the situation, but Bakshi’s way of speaking makes me confused ==” I’ll wait for your translation, whatever it is~

No, thank you very much for translating QwQ You’re life safer~

Oh, and also, I wanna ask something about LHL. The special items that given when we lose, that one that looks like oil, what’s the function of that card? I don’t get it.

Haha, both Gian and Bakshi’s voices get very … creative by LHL time. Gian is still pretty normal in LD, although Bakshi has always been kind of … crazy. You can find him in Giulio’s route, lol. But yea, he’s pretty hard to understand. (Surprisingly, for all his vulgarity, he’s actually pretty simple for me to translate… Weird…)

The oil? It’s a hit-miss lose-one-turn. ie, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. When it does, the opponent loses one turn. If it doesn’t, then you … can do whatever you want. You can even use another oil until it works, since you’ll likely be stalking up on oils by then XD

You know, I thought that Bakshi’s love-shapped point is NSFW like the other but why kitten? =A=” It’s kind of coughdisappointingcough. And Gian’s voice when he said 「もちもち、あたちジャンカルロ。下っぱやくざなの。あのね、今日ジョシュアとロイドからお電話あったの。いま、会いに行くからねって…。怖ぇえよ!!」 is REAAAAAAAL CUTE~~~ QwQ Giulio’s? OAO I haven’t found him there!!! Where’s he? I found him with both Luchino and Gian, sitting on the chair talking with two sandwiches and two glasses of whatever-it-is-in-that-glasses. …so why I don’t get him? Well, whatever…I have you anyway~~ #hug

…Sometimes it works and sometimes doesn’t. Yea, think that’s why I don’t know the function. It never works with me. Looks like it have some grudge on me =_=

Right~ Gian’s voice acting is pretty cute~ I don’t know why he’s just so lovely. And in the Drama CD when he said “nandemo itena pyuu” is cute as well XD Gian is real cutie~

Oh, I see! Ah, I’m slow =v=” Yeah, I just realize that it’s Bakshi’s own route. And I just found Bakshi with Bernardo and Ivan XD Though I don’t know why he has scene with Capo del Sarto as well ‘-‘ I don’t really know the background story for Bakshi’s route in LHL. Did he join CR-5 or is it GD? Or is it other thing? I don’t know, My kanji level is pretty poor =v=” Don’t get the story.

I’ve done Giulio’s Best Ending~ Too bad Bakshi’s time to show off is just a bit~ And I remember seeing him in Luchino’s Route in LD, if I’m not imagining. I did Luchino’s first when I buy the copy last year, so it’s not so clear in my mind ._. ARGH~ Can’t wait anymore~~ I really want Luchino’s translation~ Uncle Bernie as well, but to be honest I found Bernardo’s route less exciting than other. Luchino’s and Ivan’s are the best~ Can’t choose any~ Ivan’s is cool and cute (with that newlyweds way of fighting~) and Luchino’s is sweet and cool and all~ Both are good~~

Uhm, so Bakshi’s route basically goes like – for some reason, he goes into the CR:5 (it’s more indepth than this, but I really don’t remember why), and the others really hate him but Gian’s basically his caretaker, and somehow or another they find the missing Capo lounging about, I think in Rockwell, and then I … I forget how, but somehow he and Gian both leave and they decide to create their own gang.

…Wow, that was totally uninformative XDDD I’ll have to play his route again… I’m actually really fuzzy on most of the detailed happenings of LHL because even if I did get all the spaces, it was through different playthroughs, so I don’t remember everything XD

I’m glad to see Luchino gain some fans 🙂 I hear an overwhelming chorus of GIULIO! IVAN! that I feel people forget Bernardo and Luchino sometimes XD And then with Bernie’s route coming up, the Bernie fans are coming along, but now it’s just Luchino, sadly left behind 😦 (Though, I’ve been told you just don’t KNOW enough about him yet, so maybe his route will turn some heads!!)

                  It’s the ❤ for LD~ XD

Eto…So the others are jealous because Gian is taking care of Bakshi, ex-GD executive (okay, the jealous part is imaginative. Just ignore it u///u) and the condition is either Bakshi show off in front of others (“Look~ This one blond doggy is mine~”) or the other four stalking them.
I wonder if that’s only Capo del Sarto’s unreasonable reason to be able to enjoy holiday. Unn~
I can say I don’t really understand Bakshi’s LHL and my curiousity just keeps tempting me. I see, so that’s why he wears nice and neat clothes (that’s the most weird part, I think). If you do play it again, please do me a story-telling XD But this is not that necessary. So just work on translating LD and don’t think about me OwO7 I’ll wait patiently.

Eeeeeh~~ I don’t know Luchino is not famous. Ahh…um…so that’s that… *pat* *pat* Giulio is indeed interesting and exciting. His abnormal fetish and yandere side is somehow scarily adorable. Not only that, Giulio’s bad ending route is the best. Damn, I don’t know why I love angst and tragedy so much and that ending is perfect. But when I look at him, he’s just not my type. Too adorable, too handsome, too high-class, too much I can’t stand it. Ivan’s is cool, awesome, it’s really nice and hilarious. Ivan is so noisy but that’s the cute part of him. And what’s with that blushing habit? CUTE~ I do love Ivan as well~ I hear many people said that Bernardo’s is boring and all because it’s too ordinary with all the lovey-dovey between that married couple (?) that call each other with affectionate nickname in a romantic way. Compared with the other, yes it’s the less exciting, but it’s good in it’s own way. Uncle Bernie is awesome at work and everything he does is like a magic, like no one but him can do. His route is pretty sweet~ (and his voice sounds nice in my ears).

Now Luchino, Luchino…That’s right when Luchini’s fans said that the other who said Luchino’s route is no good or not interesting just don’t know about him. I myself think that Luchino’s story is the deepest one. Just like Bernardo, those two’s route have a very heavy content. I love how he was so attracted with Gian’s blond hair as well. The only good part of him, huh? XD I choose him first because the well-groomed sanguine-and-choleric ladies’ man aura and somehow badass playboy. OH! And because I saw the riffle gun’s CG and that clothes he and Gian wear. The best thing here is Gian’s role. Gian looks more and more cool in Luchino’s route (Honestly, I don’t really like Gian in Giulio’s. Somehow I found my favorite main character so useless. Sorry). Gian’s good point showed here~ Aiming, shooting, luckily avoided gunshot, etc. Not to mention the NSFW scene when Luchini raped Gian while drunk, in vino veritas, a lot of kisses, lovey-dovey in the shower, I love Luchino’s route soooooo much~~~ That’s why, I’m waiting for you so I can understand better QwQ

And I was right that Bakshi appears in Luchino’s route. I just confirmed it last night XD I remember the part when Bakshi shoots a chandelier on top of Luchino. Poor him injured badly. Yeah, the only route with Bakshi-Gian CGs is Luchino’s~ ❤ Many reason to love him~~

Sorry. This thing become so long ==" Ah, my writting habit…

It’s not that Luchino’s not famous so much as … I don’t think he has many vocal fans here. I like his and Ivan’s route the best – more action. Giulio’s was action, but Giulio had … obstacles that were a bit questionable. And … honestly, I didn’t much like Bernardo’s route when I first played it – it was very much financial/white-collar drama + actual drama, but now that I’m translating it, I’ve grown to have a much better appreciation of it.

Haha … taken objectively, Gian is kind of useless in every route except Bernardo’s, where he helps with the calls. He always tries so hard, poor guy…

                    Don’t worry! I love long comments! ❤

Maybe that’s right, Luchino’s fans are quiet.

Yay~ I’m happy to know there’re people who like Luchino’s route as well XD Yeah, it has more action and it has Bakshi as well~ (and Gian was shooting too~) Giulio is good, the bad end is good. I just don’t know why I don’t like his route so much. If it’s about Bernardo’s, I enjoy it but yeah, it’s not very exciting. I just like his character that’s it. (And I think his work is amazing.)

LOL XD Gian looks useless after the jailbreak. That guy is like only reliable when it comes to jailbreak.

Gian in bad egg, provided it’s not some kind of spy/mole thing, will probably have Gian acting similar to how he does in Ivan’s bad ending. In other words, he forgoes his responsibilities, their trust in him, and just lives as he wants. And under all that, he’s not that great or moral a guy.

Oh, I see. So Gian will be the like of uhmm…bastard? Sob, it will change his image reaaaal far from CR-5’s Gian. Well, I want to know what kind of thing Bakshi is as well. Luchino’s route is full with surprise, including that part of “Luchino-and-Alessandro-relationship” and “how Bakshi can’t die”. +badegg better worth the long wait =w=

I know little about the game and was really interested to play but I couldn’t buy the game nor read/understand much japanese with the little knowleged I have TT_TT I am so happy you have shared the game walkthrough with great care with the oraganized way of setting up the dialogs and pictures with the scenes. I have just finished reading Ivans route so far and, during Gains interactions with the other leaders, I couldn’t choose which one I like best LOL I have yet to read other routes so, I might have a favorite after I have read the others route to determine xD but like I said earlier, I like them all lol

I’m just going to jump on the bandwagon and thank you for taking the time to translate this game. I am incredibly impressed at the quality of your work. I’ve seen tons of translations in my time, and while a great many are wonderfully done, yours manages to get an authentic, conversational tone in English that reads naturally rather than sounding stilted or unnatural that I so rarely see.

Personally, I was excited to read the description of Lucky Dog and then to see how the stories and characters unfold. Though it definitely is a staple of the BL/novel genre as I know it (with nonsensical rapes, suitors that definitely fall into different types, etc), in many ways it’s a refreshing departure. The characters go beyond just being archetypes. I also think that, in a strange way, the mafia setting lends itself very well to the idea of the loyalty and the sort of love that the guys show toward each other (which also includes relationships in routes when they’re not Gian’s suitors). The closeness seems genuine and, despite the violent setting, somehow sweet.

    Anyway, thank you again!

It fastforwards through all the text until you reach a choice. It doesn’t care whether you’ve read the text before or not, so only use it when you’re sure there’s nothing new ahead of you. (Most games have a skip function that will stop when your game reaches new text you haven’t read before. Lucky Dog won’t.)

You can also skip text using the Ctrl buttons.

Hi, I was looking into Visual Novel Reader, and basically it’s a program that shares translations, and has a nice window that pops up with a translation that some other translator came up with. As far as I know, it’s not hacking. You don’t mess with the original game and etc.

I was wondering if it was okay if I could use your translation and this program to make a sort of pseudo patch. Though the person who translates it gets the credit so I’m not EXACTLY sure how I’m going to handle this….

here’s a link to the guide of setting it up and use it to translate stuff:

Hello, thank you for offering. However, I currently have no plans to do this or have other people use my translations. I plan to look into the possibility of doing so in the future, but the final decision rests with tennenouji.

Please don’t use my translations to make a pseudo-patch. If this were a question about hacking, I wouldn’t have also been so against YouTube videos being made of the game (using my translation), but because the issue is more complicated than that, I will have to urge you to not use the VNR with my translation for LD1.

      Sorry for the unfavorable response.

I didn’t know going into it, but apparently LD is one of the more highly regarded BL series because of its good characters, writing, and story. It’s up there with Nitro+Chiral’s works. (I honestly had no idea and fanmailed this to the tennenouji staff. Their non-existent reaction was amusing in its “You … didn’t know? >_>”-ness.)

The LHL plotline… I can actually write up about it without finishing the LD translation, but I do plan on making a page for it someday. From what I know (and you’ll have to take this in its Japanese-style abstractness), there are two ways to take the story. The first is that a demon egg comes and gobbles up the CR:5 + Bakshi and Gian has to go into the egg and battle (ie, live) through alternate lives of the person being rescued. This journey eventually brings Gian to the person and they escape together. The second is that Gian is playing a Life Sim board game and invites the others to play along.

Yes, the second makes more sense, lol. It’s not just you.

But craziness aside, all of the alternate lives are hypothetical what-if situations branching from Gian’s own life. For example, what if Gian had run off with Giulio when they’d met as children? What if Gian had noticed Ivan and run off with him? What if Gian had joined Luchino’s crew? What if he’d joined Bernardo’s? etc. The hypothetical lives are very possible and can even be taken as canonical in their own sense, since Lucky Dog (the main game) itself emphasizes that there is no canon, only choices. There’s a lot of thought put into each situation, as crazy as they are, which is why I don’t brush this game off as a crazy sidegame.

      Hello,

      Sorry for the late response.

For the PC version, you can find out how to buy Lucky Dog 1 here: https://terracannon876.wordpress.com/translations/ld1-main/ld1-credit/ . It’s in the bottom of the page. I provided simple instructions, but in short, you got to a Japanese store, find the store you want, go to YokattaWeb, ask them to order it for you, pay them, and it’ll arrive at your place sometime later. You can also look for online forums on BL games, the most famous being aarinfantasy, but you’ll need an account for that.

There is no mac version, but there IS an iOS version. I’m not sure how apps work, but if there is some way to use iPhone / iPad apps on your mac, then you can play LD fine. Please go to this page for more information: https://terracannon876.wordpress.com/trivia/lucky-dog-1-iphone-version/ .

No, thank you for reading 🙂

Hey, sorry for the late response. Didn’t mean to let this hang for so long.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the translations. Unfortunately, I try not to give out docs/pdfs of my translations. …Plus, with all the notes I make, they’re nigh unreadable. Especially after the HTML. So, the best way for you is probably to open the page beforehand when you do have internet and just … keep it open. Or you could bookmark it and make it accessible offline. If I recall right, your browser will let you do that. It just has to download the pictures, which aren’t too hard since it’s doing that every time it loads anyways.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help 😦

And having numerous tabs open can get pretty messy, as I like to get through a majority of a route in one sitting. However, if you really don’t want to, I understand and don’t want to push you ^^ Thanks again 😀 And glad to see you continuing Bernardo’s route, can’t wait to read those updates!

I never said I was losing interest in continuing his route. I think what you had read was with regards to the translation project in general, but that isn’t the main issue at the moment (and also the lag in interest is gone, so no worries there). The main problem is I need to pick up my new laptop at home, and the next time I’m going back is in early October, so until then, no updates.

Thanks for the concern, though. Sorry I can’t get Luchino’s route up sooner 😦

Just picked up Lucky Dog after going through Dramatical murder & re:connect.. must say I like it so far. My japanese is .. iffy at best, so thankyou very much for your translations. The site layout is nice and simple too. Wish i had dual screen hehe..

I sincerely hope you finish the other routes. I look forward to seeing how horrible I am at reading Japanese on my own -grin-

Thankyou again for your hard work.

    Waaaah, thank you so much for this! I’ve just finished Ivan’s route and I really wanted to do Luchino’s (because I love his seiyuu) so I tried to find another translation and I just couldn’t do it. Your translation spoiled everything for me ;__;
Seriously though, your prose is really fluid and amazing, and it finally dawned on me that you got to have some writing talent to be able to translate anything well. The usage of slang is really great as well, and I feel like you really breathed life into these characters even though you had to use another language.
    Thanks a bunch again! 🙂

Hello, thank you for commenting! I want to confirm that I am understanding correctly.

Basically, you have downloaded Lucky Dog 1 the game, but when you play it, the game doesn’t start correctly? Or does it not save correctly? How far do you get before the game breaks?

I’m sorry, but I don’t know of any translation into Arabic. What do you mean by Tracking Method?

Sorry I couldn’t answer most of your questions.

There is no Bakshi x Gian route. There are only 4 main pairings for Gian – Bernardo, Luchino, Giulio, and Ivan.

There is a friendship route with Bakshi, but there is no pairing route.

This may sound strange but, do you have the full game? Or do you only have the free demo?

The only other reason I can think of is that you need to patch the game. But I will have to provide instructions on that. So, where did you get your game?

It isn’t because you have the language different. The language will only change what you see in the text boxes in the game.

Sorry for the very late reply.

    Umm… Terra-san… I have a question here, hope you don’t mind ^^;;

I checked LD1 in pixiv and I saw many pics of Gian in their Halloween outfits (what it seemed to me), Gian wearing white sleeveless dress with his leg being wrapped with bandages, Bernardo as Lucifer and Ivan being a mummy. At first I thought it was just a single fanart, but the more pages I searched through the more I saw them dressing in the same outfits in different fanarts by different artists. I can’t help but wonder, is it from an official image or what?

Have a nice day. Love, your fan.

If you look on the official shop here, you’ll see various images at the top of the shop. These are pins or badges that tennenouji made for different occasions such as Anniversary, White’s Day, Halloween, and Christmas. I believe there is also an official non-chibi version of these costumes somewhere in the Cool-B magazines, but I don’t have access to those scans so I can’t check. So, yes, the designs are indeed canon.

If that’s the case, you can provide a link back to my blog, but I’d rather not have my translations copy/pasted elsewhere. If not, please clarify what you mean by adding the translation to the blog. The site looks like an ambitious project, though. Good luck!

    Terra-san, I have been so curious about this… Saganuma and Jinnai, the writers of lucky dog 1 are both guys right? If yes then that explains much on why the feminine feel in the game is lacking unlike the majority of BL works out there. There’s no way women can accurately portray the POV of guys, that’s why honestly I am not really into BL -_-;;

I’m not sure about Suganuma, but evidence points to Jinnai being female. I think what you’re noticing is the writers both putting characters and writing first rather than deciding on which tropes to capitalize on first.

    Hello, Terra-san!!

First off, I am absolutely grateful for your translations of Lucky Dog 1 and the hard work and time you have put into doing them. So here’s a big THANK YOU for that :D. I haven’t started the game yet because I was waiting for all the routes to be translated first before playing xxDD. Which sorta brings me to my question: I’m sort of confused with the status of the game’s translations because I haven’t been keeping up to date with them ^^;;. So, just to clarify, with the exception of Luchino’s route, are you finished completely translating all the other routes or are there any extra endings/chapters/extras that you still need to translate and add? (Sorry for sounding meticulous here, but I’m really curious about it haha)

You got the general idea right. There was a large event with many families on the East Coast, including Boston and NYC, so it’s big shiznit. However, Gian was away on another meeting when something went BOOM and he went MIA when he realized ppl were after him. The others were stuck back in Daivan preparing the event, and … I think they know Gian’s alive (I’m fuzzy on this, I think he called them?) so they hurried on, but now the problem is also whether he’ll get back on time (I think). After some literal train hopping and hijacking cars and bribing ppl to pretend to be him and then getting an Elder to drive him in, he finally makes it and that’s that CG.

In short, they’re relieved he made it back, relieved he made it safe from the hitmen after him, and relieved he made it back on time.

      Hey Pengaana,
I didn’t get to respond to your previous comment, but thanks for keeping with the blog! As for your question on where the save data is, have you looked in C:/Tennenouji/ ? There should be a folder called Lucky Dog 1 (『ラッキードッグ1』) and in that folder is one called Saves. If the folder “Tennenouji” isn’t there, it might be in Program Files, if you manually selected that folder. This is the folder where Lucky Dog 1 is on your computer when you first installed it.
      Hope that helps!

Hello Terra! I was relayed here via a friend who wanted Lucky Dog to be translated, and she said you needed extra help with translating it. While I’m not fluent in Japanese by any means, I know Hiragana and Katakana like the back of my hand, and memorized a little over 400 Kanji (still doing so). If you would prefer someone’s who is fluent, then our business is done. If you’re interested in letting me do so, send inquiries at kenart36@yahoo.com. Have a nice day! 🙂

I need to get get all this down before my Kindle dies… Let me just start off with I found this app in the app store I don’t even know how long ago and took a screenshot so I wouldn’t forget it and have been waiting for an English version of it to come out. Well it didn’t happen and since the title wasn’t in English I almost lost hope till it occurred to me I should probably should Google what was in characters I could understand… long story short I wound up here. 😛
Well now my search is complete I finally know the name of it. And thank you for this. If I do decide to download it I’ll be sure to use this. Still hope they’ll come out with an official English version. But right now my phone is still having issues with the new update.(Postponed update for so long but gave in because of a sticker pack. x_x) Neh… well anyways got warning from Kindle that it was dying. Toodles!

Hello! Thank you so much for translating LD1 🙂 with my basic Japanese and the help of machine-translation, I’ve managed to finish all of the games lol. I still have a question from LD1 though, who is Gian to boss Alessandro? I remember in the game they were hinted to be family or something (like, I remember side characters hinting Gian means something to Alessandro or something?) but it was never clarified. I think it could have been addressed in an interview or other media I haven’t heard about, so I was wondering if you knew the answer (and could enlighten me lol)?

Hello! Sorry for late reply. The answer to that isn’t in the main game. It’s only hinted at several times in the main game, a few times in the short stories, and maybe once in the side games. It’s stated outright in the visual fanbook, though. It’s made more difficult by how the term Gian uses for Alessandro (“Pops” or “Oyaji”) is both appropriate and yet … can be taken literally.

Since it’s not stated in the main game, I’m reluctant to say it outright myself, but I hope my answer gives you the answer you’re looking for ;P

      Thanks for reading!
