Part 1: Prison

Chapter 3

Ivan Visit 2

I head into Ivan’s cell across from mine.

Seeing me, Ivan gives orders to his neighbors to clear the vicinity.

Ivan: Aaall right … hold on to your horses.

With an accomplished expression plastered all over his face, he pulls out a small scrap of paper from his pocket and hands it to me.  …What is it?

Ivan: Here ya go.  Take a gooood long look.

The paper in my hands is crammed full of the days of the week, time, and guard names in small letters.  I unconsciously breathe out, and end up inflating a huge bubble with my gum.

It hits me that this is the night watch’s schedule.

Gian:  How … did you get this?
Ivan: There’re a lot of long-time convicts on the first floor who’ve got a grasp of the night watch’s round schedules.  I went face-to-face and asked them about the patterns for the week.
Gian: ‘Face-to-face?’
Ivan: I promised their families on the outside ‘d get accommodated through my lawyer.

I’d heard that though Ivan’s the new guy, he’s got a strong backing with the Daivan locals, especially the non-Italians.

The Boss had patted him on the shoulder, acknowledging not only his aggressiveness but also his reputation, and announced, “You’re capo now!”  …At least that’s what I’d heard faint rumors of.

It’s just that the tale seemed like something he’d spread himself, so I’d thought, ‘Well, I’m gonna need a spoonful of salt with this.’  …Nonono, stop.  Stop.  This is a good job.  A really, really good job.

Ivan: I’ve straightened out the contradictions after listening to several people’s accounts, so there shouldn’t be any problem with this info.
Gian: Really?  Quite a nice job you did here.

Grin still on my face, I shred the memo into tiny pieces.

Ivan: The fuck you doing?!  There’s no way the info could be off…!

I flush the strips down the toilet and then turn to face him.

Gian: Leaving paper like that behind is the first step to getting screwed.

I say this harshly, but actually, I’m exceedingly impressed with Ivan’s skills.

Gian: I’ve got what you’ve written down memorized.
Ivan: What?  You remember everything already?
Gian: Man, it’s so much more detailed than anything I could’ve found on my own!  Plus, just a quick skim and I could already tell it’s most likely authentic.  This info’s just what I needed.  Thanks.

Ivan’s expression softens when I thank him to his face.

Gian: Sorry.  To tell the truth, I really underestimated you.

I was really taken aback by the unexpectedly pretty letters on that memo, too.

Gian: My opinion of you just skyrocketed through the roof.  My bad for making fun of you.

When I look back at Ivan’s face … I find that it’s visibly getting redder and redder in anger.

I was complimenting him, so why?!

When Ivan starts bellowing his “Fuck!”s and “Shit!”s, I make a mad dash out of there.

…Now then, who to talk to next?

“Ivan: There’re a lot of long-time convicts on the first floor who’ve got a grasp of the night watch’s round schedules. I went face-to-face and asked them about the patterns for the week.”

I honestly love it when Ivan gets crafty. But then again, people being clever is a well-known kink of mine.

“The Boss had patted him on the shoulder, acknowledging not only his aggressiveness but also his reputation, and announced, “You’re capo now!” …At least that’s what I’d heard faint rumors of.”

… bet Ivan went all tsundere on him, too.

“Gian: Leaving paper like that behind is the first step to getting screwed.
I say this harshly, but actually, I’m exceedingly impressed with Ivan’s skills.”

Same Gian, same. He really didn’t get the job for laughs and giggles. Although he’s really just a babe. …. no wait he’s my age what am I saying.

“Ivan’s expression softens when I thank him to his face.”

Here’s where I’d normally go ‘Yep I ship it like Fedex.’ but since this is yaoi I don’t even have to it’s already shipped world wide for me by the creators ALL THE BLESSINGS

“When Ivan starts bellowing his “Fuck!”s and “Shit!”s, I make a mad dash out of there.”

YES, this exactly is what likely happened after Alessandro promoted him, too. Classic Tsundere. The best actually. ❤
