Just Another Day

Gian: I’ve finished the rounds over on my end. |

Ivan: …Good. The only thing left’s to check the books at Sam’s place. |
The two of us stroll down the alley through the warehouses on the lonely port in the completely cold sea wind. The cold of the wind is clearly pregnant with snow and ice.
Ivan slurps at the small stick candy poking out of his mouth. I follow up by sticking some gum in mine.
…It’s been about a month since then…
The war with GD’s still continuing. After the first surprise attack and after we’d finished off the traitors they’d snuck into our side, the GD are the ones at a disadvantage.
…The whole thing wrapped up by Christmas…
Boss Alessandro’s back as capo, and he’s hopping about as vigorously as ever. All the captains are also in great shape.
…The CR:5’s looking good, better than before everyone’d been thrown into lockup. …Rather, I feel a good breeze blowing through right now. And, as for me…

Ivan: …Shit, business’s gone down the hole since the rumors about the Prohibition’s ending’ve started up. I wonder if they’ll ban food or sex next. |

Gian: That’d be awesome! We’d make big bucks. The bigwigs up in the senate’re practically chimpanzees. …Oh. I just had a good idea! |
Ivan answers, “Don’t wanna hear it,” by turning his back and walking away. I trot after him…

Gian: Why don’t we become bigwigs ourselves? Doncha think things’ll go a whole lot smoother that way? Doncha think we could even take over the country? |

Ivan: Stupid, don’t you know you need a crapload of money to have any voice in politics? Where’ll we get all that dough from, hah? …Go earn it yourself. Shoo. |

Gian: Tsk. Spoilsport. |
In the hearing … I’d basically gotten my seat as next boss rescinded, but … well, I’m actually kinda relieved.
…If the Boss hadn’t returned back then… …Could I have handled the current family as it was, full of its turncoats and all those soldiers staying back in reserve like a hungry swarm…?
It … probably would’ve gone down worse than what the Boss’d experienced when he was young – an even worse blood purge and internal conflict… That’s what I feel.

In the end, I … stayed in my spot as the lowest-ranking captain as I stick with Ivan, patrolling through the city and taking care of business…
Sometimes, we also have a big brawl with a rivaling gang. And at night, we head back to the hotel room, and…

I slap Ivan’s ass as I walk alongside him. …I … am totally the luckiest guy in the world. I really think so.

Ivan: It’s ‘bout time for the fried clams to be coming out, too. …Aaah, crunchy, deep-fried clams with hot, spicy chili…! I could get a whole basket of that! |

Gian: Sounds nice! The crabs should be getting tasty about now, too! … …Oh. Shit. I forgot my wallet again. |
Ivan: Again?! …Heeey … you’re not doing it on purpose, are you, you dipshit?!

Gian: I’m not!! I forgot it when I changed jackets ‘cause it’s cold out! |
The two men whap each other on the back and trade angry shouts back and forth as they climb into the back seat of a black Chevrolet sedan.
White exhaust smoke immediately billows out from the sedan’s rear as it starts moving, cutting through the traffic leading up to the main street…
…before disappearing into the distance.

In my honest opinion, because he finally gets that lollipop he deserves for sticking with his racist peers, who’ve never made it easy on him not to doubt them, for daring to trust and becoming a better person although it was hard, but okay go on.
“Luchino: Oh dear … it’s rather nasty of you to tell us the truth straight off the bat. It makes it such that about the only thing we can do is nod and accept.”

You know, Bernardo’s characterized as the nerd in all this. Basically, this is what happens when you drive a nerd (who’s in the Mafia) off the edge and make him really stressed and pissy. …omg Bernardo XD
D’aww, don’t be too hard on Cavalli, Luchino and Giulio XD They had their hands tied with red tape (that Ivan just ignores, for better or for worse).
And Giulio can be serious! …When Gian’s not around! …You know, he actually offered to help Ivan a few chapters ago. I lol’d, because Giulio really does dislike Ivan (and non-Italians) and doesn’t make much of a secret of it, but still he actually offered to help to better the situation (not just because Gian said so, because he didn’t really say anything at the time).

He may not break your arm, or shoot your face clean full of holes from 300yrds away, but if you make him have a stress-induced bad-hair-day*, he’ll make you lose your house and wife and children the second you blink, buy your company, make it fire you, dig up all the dirty things you’ve ever done in highschool, publish them in every paper, and in the end, stare you down until you decide to set yourself on fire. XD
I’m not mad at Cavalli, he’s a sweetheart – and Luchino, well, somebody had to say it, makes him maybe more of a deadpan-snarker than captain obvious. XD

Oh. That was because I was like “…I ❤ this icon, but I'm not evil … not really. So this icon doesn't really suit me… =|" So I changed it. I think too much about these things XD
Bernardo is constantly teased as having a receding hairline (by everyone except Giulio, who doesn't tease anyone anyways). I'm not sure what's so receding about it, since he has more hair than all the other characters combined.
Giulio is definitely special. Yeah. In the common way that word is used, too. I ❤ him, though. He's certainly a unique character.
I'm sorry, di Bondone is not dead in this chapter XD It's too bad ^^;

Bernardo may be the oldest, but Luchino’s not far behind. I think they actually mean this literally. In fact, technically Gian’s hitting 28 soon (already?) And the game takes the ages as real-time ^^;

…Uh, I didn’t mean immediately XD But the fact that they’re serializing fewer and fewer SS seems to be a sign (to me) that they’re starting to slow down on the LD craze. Of course they’re still working on Bad Egg+ … although the writers and Yura have apologized profoundly for their writer’s block (which was what eventually turned into IFG and LHL, imo, so there’s nothing really there to apologize for XD).
Ah. Blast. The second volume should be out soon / is out already. I can’t get myself to get used to the art, but I love iskultrip’s reader for it. I admit that when I first started out on this project, I was worried that I’d get caught behind the manga…

WORRRRDDDD. 8DDD People tend to take their own franchise wayyyyy too seriously, LD is one of the best examples that you don’t have to and can still do right by it. ❤
The second volume comes out the day after tomorrow I think, according to amazon.co.jp XD I've considered ordering it. But the shipping's so bloody expensive and I'd have to go through extra channels such as Ooh!Japan to pay for it in the first place, so… <_<;
I instantly liked the art. A bit more soft around the edges and stuff, but it's okay. c: I know what you mean though.

IFG and LHL actually fit into canon, although not in any notable way. The advancement in the stories will happen in the 3rd anni SS instead.
Aah … the art I didn’t like because of its exaggeration. Like … wow. Dramatic. DR-A-M-A-T-I-C O_O Ahem.
I also ‘lol’d at the little black monsters running around because I just knew that people would wonder if Gian was insane because he sees little mouth-tongue critters running around everywhere that get macabre-ly squished every other panel.

I REJECT THAT NOTION ;DDD Nah, you’re probably right. But there are enough indicators to make that connection in my opinion. It’s not like the “luck” trope gets swept under the carpet or anything. If you pause to think in which kinds of situations the critters appear, and how they stick to him, try to engulf him, it’s really not that hard. But not everyone finds this interesting enough an aspect to dwell on it, I suppose. All a matter of taste, as with everything. 😀
