Part 3: Daivan

Chapter 13

Our Shared Memory

bg70

It’s been two weeks since then.

bg00     bg116

giandaivanu2-1-1 Gian: …

I sigh for the nth time standing in front of that building.  I don’t know how many times I’ve passed by the front of the building, wandering back and forth.  Finally … I give up and head into the grounds.

…I creep in past the doors to the St. Rita Abbey and enter the central garden.

In the corner of my eyes I can see a small grove of trees and some stones – green and black, belonging to the quiet, secluded cemetery.  …It’s there the victims of the events this time are sleeping.

I give them a silent prayer before heading back to the church, looking at the abbey building all the while.  …In my vague memories, I remember the snap of the cane.  I head towards that serene, beloved place.

bg0     bg118

giandaivanu3-3-1d Gian: It brings me back…

I can see the kids playing outside by the orphanage window and out past the garden.  …Ah, right.  Halloween’s getting close.  Formally, the abbey celebrates All Hallow’s Day, but…

…there’s no way kids, even those from a Catholic orphanage, could resist the night when the city is drowning in the festival and candy.  In reality, I was one of them, too.

…I won’t mention this topic to the abbess today.

And, I decided … I’m going to give the orphanage a Halloween present.  It’s the first time I’ve done something like this.  Plus, it’s from my own pocket.

…I wonder, who was it who’d given me the candies in the past, when I was here?  …I don’t remember anymore.  That’s why I’m secretly going to return the favor.

giandaivanu3-13-1d Gian: …God, thanks.

I turn my eyes up to the cross standing erect over the church.  It’s out of character, but I make a cross over my chest.  It’s not something a Mafioso does in this bloodstained city.

…is what I’d say to others, but…  …Well, what’s it really matter?  …After all, the recipient’s someone you’re not even sure really exists.

I head towards the inner room to talk with the abbess.  It’s then, suddenly…

Gian: Huh…?

Giulio: …

At some point in time … Giulio was standing there.  I mean, him appearing suddenly out of nowhere is completely normal and always happens, so it’s not anything too surprising, but…

What is this…?  Giulio’s wearing clothes I’ve never seen before – a suit that probably costs about as much as ten of mine put together.

Giulio: …Am I … interrupting?

Gian: Oh.  No…  This is God’s house so it’s big enough for everyone.  But, Giulio…

Gian: Why’re you here?  …Oh.  Aah…

I notice just what Giulio has in his hands.  It’s a basket full of decorated candy.  The mountain of sweets sits sparklingly adorned over the sheet lining the basket.

It’s probably Halloween candy he’d prepared for the orphanage.

Giulio: I…

Giulio’s eyes fall to the sparklies in the basket, his black eyes reflecting them like stars, before saying,

Giulio: I … am glad I met you.

Gian: Wh-What brought this up, all of a sudden?

Giulio: I am glad … I fell in love with you.

Wh-What’s going on with him…?  ‘…This isn’t really something you should talk about in a church,’ I think even as I reply,

Gian: S-Same here.  But, what brought this suddenly?

Giulio: When I fell in love with you … I was finally able to love myself, too…  I … love myself for … loving you…

Gian: Giulio…

Giulio: For so long … for so long, you … have always been … my support.  If this … remains unchanged in the future, I…

Gian: Ha … haha…  How could you doubt it?  Jeez, what’s up with you?

It’s no surprise I start getting a bit embarrassed, so I … stick my hand into the basket in Giulio’s hand and raid the mountain for one of the kid’s candies.

I pop it into my mouth…

Gian: …Mm, mm!  Whoa, that’s good!

…This candy’s really, really good.

I let the sticky, dribbly mess of sweet melt into my tongue, into my brain … when suddenly…

It’s really out of nowhere that I remember something that happened a long time ago, when I was a kid.  …Crap, just how long ago was it…?

…About twenty years?  Hasn’t been that long, has it?

Giulio: I … may be the Mad Dog, but … I am just as … no, luckier … than you, Lucky Dog…

Giulio’s voice brings me back to my senses…

Gian: Hm?  Something good happen?

Giulio: …

Giulio smiles a small smile and nods … and again, his eyes drop to the shinies inside the basket.  I mull over the almost-melted candy…

Gian: Halloween, eh?  The kids’re probably getting all riled up.  …Oh, that’s right, I was the same way…

Giulio: Yes…

Gian: When I was a brat, I always looked forward to Halloween, right?  …Oh, I remember now.  Don’t know what year it was, but…

Gian: …don’t know if it was for some kind of charity event or whatever, but, once, there was this awkward kid in a dazzling suit spick and span, hauling in this gigantic basket.

Giulio: …Ah…

Gian: Plus, there were bodyguards guarding or keeping an eye on him behind him, obviously gangsters in their black suits.  Not a single person in the orphanage dared approach him.

Giulio: …Is … that so…

Gian: But I was a really hardcore brat back then.  I tottered on over without a care in the world … and pilfered as much candy as my two arms could hold.

Giulio: …Hehe … Gian…

Gian: But even after that, he stayed right where he was!  It suddenly came to me, ‘Ah, he can’t leave until he gives ‘em all away!’  …So I went and snatched the entire basket.

Gian: Man … that candy sure was delici…ous…

Giulio: …

The fragment of candy on my tongue melts, vanishes, into my body – the body held captive by this tiny, tiny flash of memory controlling me, body and mind.

transition187     bg0

…This taste…

bg0

Gian: Oh…

Giulio: Gian…

Giulio’s hand plucks up one of the little candies … and gently places it in my mouth.

This taste…  And the…

…the color of his eyes…

Giulio: I … was very happy … because it was the first time … someone had treated me normally….

Giulio: …I have always … loved you…

Gian: Wh-Wh—?!

bg00

Giulio’d always said he’d known me from way back.  …I’d completely thought he’d meant just from since I’d entered the CR:5 this whole time…

…But, that’s not true!  Then, the one who’d given me this candy was…!

transition24

bg0

Gian: …Giulio…?!

Giulio: …Yes, Gian…

WARNING THIS COULD BE CONSIDERED A SPOILER!
I have a question maybe it a SPOILER for a different route ? I could be wrong ….but is there a picture of them in a church in the end and more dialogue between Giulio and Gian ?

One of the conditions for me doing this (with tennenouji’s, the company’s, knowledge) is that I don’t use either the final CG in each of the best routes (Ivan in the elevator, Giulio in the church, Luchino at the park, and Bernardo on the bridge) or the 100% completion CG in the route.

In short, yes, there is an image that is supposed to be there. No, I will not change it. Sorry.

Also, no. That should be all the dialogue there.

You have no idea how many people I have screamed at about this ending today, I literally have never cried tears of joy until reading this part. I love how the route ends with Gian awkwardly saying ‘… Giulio… ?!’ and Giulio answering obediently because these two lines speaks so much of their relationship, how they’re a little bit awkward, but at the same time, work so well.
Congratulations on the completion of Giulio’s route! Thank you for your hard work with this A+ translation as always! ヾ(@⌒ー⌒@)ノ

OMG this was so CUTE! Guilio’s really sweet – but I have to admit, I was rather scared during his rape scene. However, Guilio ultimately redeemed himself for me. Gian IS really forgiving though and handled what had happened really well.

Anyways, I’ve finally finished all of your wonderful translations for both Ivan and Giulio’s routes^^ Just the bad/normal endings left for Giulio.
But man, I honestly can’t pick a favourite between the two. I love both Ivan and Giulio (they’re soo adorable in their own ways ♥) and Gian’s my favourite protagonist ever! All the characters in this game are so amazing & intriguing, yet so flawed at the same time; and I really love it haha^^

In regards to Giulio’s route, whatever happened to Giulio’s stupid bondone grandpa? It stated in the section before that:
The geezer went missing and “After his treachery was dragged out into the open, we figured he’d make a move to another state or overseas temporarily, but… Giulio’s been busy wrapping that up this whole time”

Anyways, thanks again (for the nth time) for your translations! I would never have been able to play and enjoy this game without them. I’m really looking forward to getting the remaining endings for Guilio (once you post them) and Bernardo & Luchino’s routes as well 🙂

It’s never stated what happened to Bastardone. He disappeared. Um … if the resolution was in Giulio’s two epilogue SS, I … uh … haven’t read them yet XD

The “wrapping up” Giulio was doing was most likely business having to do with taking over the company / family business.

I’m glad you enjoyed the two routes! Really can’t decide? XD

        Ohh I see 🙂
And NOO don’t make me choose between them! That’s too hard! … … …
Hmm, well, while they both had adorable & exciting routes…

Ivan’s route just had me laughing SOO hard pretty much the entire time. I just loved the dynamic and dialogues between those two. I felt Gian had more of his spunk in this route and the two worked really good as a combo. It had the absolutely HILARIOUS comedy and Ivan’s such a cute tsundere! Also, who doesn’t love it when Ivan swears in English? xD

Giulio’s route was cute, scary, then REALLY sweet. I loved how Gian is like the most important thing to him and how his personality & voice differ so greatly when he’s not talking to Gian. Plus, his voice is probably one of my fave voices ever (who’s his seiyuu?). Also, we got to see a bit more of Gian’s background and a lot more of the GD (instead of just Honus).

As I thought, I can’t really choose 😛 Maybe Ivan? Well it was my first route and basically introduced me to the awesomeness of lucky dog 1.. But Giulio’s soo cute too! AHH I DON’T KNOW! This is torture! I give up xD I’ll love all of them equally!

You can find the voice actors in the credits page from the main LD translation page.

          Giulio = Iguchi Yuuichi.

You won’t really find him anywhere else, but recently he did the protagonist (and uke, lol) of Shounen Alice.

Oh I also forgot to ask:
Why did Giulio have an obsession with corpses and blood and stuff? Like what initiated this strange obsession? Did his bondone grandpa have a role in that? Did the grandpa even know that Giulio was like that in the first place? Moreover, was there any deeper meaning wtih Giulio’s parents, especially his mom? Cause the bondone grandpa called her a bitch and compared (?) Giulio to her in a bad way (i can’t recall what he exactly said).
Sorry for all the questions! Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the voice actor’s name (idk why i didn’t see it for some reason). Shounen Alice looks pretty interesting. Too bad it’s only in Japanese, so I can’t play it.. which is the usual LOL. And yeah, Giulio’s voice actor is a bit more suited for ukes i think xD

SS translations are obviously great, but I’m looking forward to the game’s translations first the most. But anything lucky dog is good^^ Plus, a change of pace is good whenever you need one 🙂

Anyways, this is totally an aside and probably stupid to say/ask, but I’m still gonna 😛 You do have a backup of all your translations, right? Like saved in your documents or something? Just in case something happens to your blog or whatnot. That most probably won’t happen (more like impossible). I’ve heard something similar happen to someone before and it sucks.. you probably do have a backup.. Ack this is really a dumb question! lmao

I have no words to express how excited I am for Bernardo's route. Though it'll hurt a little knowing how much Guilio loves Gian and that will never get recognized in any other route, but that's one of the woes of choosing between the characters orz

Kya!!!!!!!! Omg, that was so sweet!!!!!! I mean Ivan’s best ending was cute but this one made me nearly combust with moe!!!!!!!!! Definitely a favorite!!!!!!!!! Now I gotta see if I can find this game…… It looked pretty interesting from the outside and now I am hooked!!!!!!! So far all the characters are interesting in their own way and I love all of them!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for translating all this!!!!!!!! You can probably add me to the list of fans who died by becoming overwhelmed with how cute this was cuz I think I’ll be joining them shortly! 😉 I love Giulio (I know that a lot of other ppl do too and I can’t blame them, despite how twisted he seems but it doesn’t look like that is all his fault. I blame that old grandpa…..what did u call him…..Bastardone?)!!!!!!!! I loved this best ending!!!!!! (I’m sure you’ve read a lot of comments that said the same thing but hey, can u blame them?) Somehow, it seems kinda romantic and fitting that this ends in a church, there was one thing that was ringing in my mind when I read that……hehehe…..

Again thanks for translating this! I’m sure that this took a lot of time and effort so I appreciate u doing all this for the Lucky Dog fans out there!!!!!!!! I can’t wait for the others; they all seem interesting. Take your time with them; I don’t want to make u feel overwhelmed or rushed cuz this does seem like a delicate process in a way.

Though I’m probably not the first to ask this, why isn’t Lucky Dog an anime!!!!!! From just that 1:30 trailer alone, Gian, Ivan and Giulio look super hot in anime mode and it seems like the action from just the jail would get a good number of ppl’s attention. If they r worried about the yaoi factor, they could just follow Lucky Dog Blast’s route to avoid that. Grrrr, I’m just saying this cuz I really want to see Gian and Giulio move and talk, in a different way then in the game!!!!!! Agh…..okay I’ve calmed down now…….somehow that kinda made no sense at all…….

Mm. I can’t speak for tennenouji of course, but an anime is probably a bit of a reach considering how much money that would require. Maybe it’ll be more of a possibility after bad egg+ releases and they’re not as busy and it earns them some funds…? And if the manga does well? Maybe…

I hope you enjoy the other’s routes too! Until next time~

Hopefully they won’t do dubbing. I always find that dubs ruin Japanese games/anime. I’d be happy with just the dialogue being in english 😉
Nothing beats Seiyuu’s IMHO!! No one beats them in making the characters come alive/ have soul

Has there ever been a case of visual novels being dubbed? I can’t think of one as far as I know.

The reason they wouldn’t do it (while it isn’t because they’re afraid of how it’ll affect the feel of the game or the seiyuu’s fans; if that were the case, they’d just include dual audio) is because it would cost a TON. If regular video games (ie, RPGs, FPS, Action, etc.) already have trouble with dubbing, imagine all that time you spend PLAYING the game and instead replace it with voiced dialogue. In other words, the cost of dubbing would be 2-3x and would fly through the roof. Nothing would ever be brought overseas after that, especially with visual novels – which generate very little profit if it’s not straight / all-ages.

          So no, you don’t have to worry about dubbing. You just have to worry about a finding a localization company willing to take the risk to fund a game that’s not likely to bring much profit, since the game in question is BL ^^;

heh, I had a feeling Giulio met you when you were a child. I actually thought it was weird Gian said it could’ve been around the time he first joined CR:5. : /

    >.< well crap, lump me in the Giulio-fangirls Club. I've been playing because the story and characters are so interesting, but dammit, that part a few chapters ago did me in. The CG of Giulio when he saved you and you both jumped in a hole (away from the grenade) took my heart.

Haha, well despite gaining an interest in someone so strange in the head, thanks a million for translating and uploading this in an easy-on-the-eyes format. .<

yeah, I actually did the bad ending first lol. I wanted to know what would happen~! I pretended not to notice that it said the choice lead to bad end lol. then I rewound and went to the best end.

and darnit, I forgot too many angel brackets become html. I wanted to give you a heart! but it disappeared. And np about replies. I like reading comments too so I figured I’d give the community my two cents lol. well, then if you don’t mind I’ll probably keep spamming comments xD.
Really looking forward to reading some of Bernardo’s route. He’s so totally my type (I think?! unless his story shows a side of him I’m not anticipating.)

So there’s going to be a sequel game? I’ll have to look into importing a copy… hope I’ll find it at few places I have in mind~ otherwise deputy fees are going to suck. Dx

Oh, I meant the bad end route, not the single choice that leads to a bad end. It should be listed as Bad Ending 02. It’s one of the “best” ones in the game XD

Yes, please do continue your comments! I look forward to reading them 🙂

For importing, please look into the LD Credits section. Also, if you live in the US, YokattaWeb might be the cheapest option for importing.

There isn’t a sequel, but there are short stories (SS) that are. They take place 1-3 years after the game. The other two games so far are 1.) a what-if story and 2.) a crack story. Bad egg+ is planned to be an expansion of the current story.

XD oh~! oh.. bad route. No I hadn’t checked over the list to read it yet. Well then if you “recommend” it, then I’ll to get on it asap lol.

Ah~ sorry for my bad wording. Yes, what I called the sequel isn’t a sequel as far as the timeline goes. If you know- is BadEgg like a re-release of LD1 with new content, or is it more like an expansion (add-on) and you need both game discs for it to work?

Been surfing Tennenouji’s site. Ok, so the SS are fanbooks, like short novels- is the only image the cover? I think I’m going to die if I don’t get the new Anniversary comic coming out. The sample pages are amazing. @_@

Bad Egg+ is an expansion pack. It works off the original game, so you will have to have the original game.

The SS = short stories. I wouldn’t call them fanbooks since they appear everywhere from the OST booklet to the visual fanbook to the anniversary books. You can preorder the comic from their site, or you can ask YokattaWeb to do it. If you need help, don’t hesitate to ask! The 4th Anni comic has 22 pages for each character, full color.

I translated a couple of the SS, so you can take a look at it if you want 😉

Giulio is really sweet and I love his profile design, but I do not like yanderes characters very much >.< Sorry Giulio, but I'm sure there are a lot of other players who adore you (no wonder it's so popular ).
    And …
Ivan, it seems you're still the supreme senpai (be happy about it)! \o/

Loved this route! Giulio is so cute, and Gian’s so full of personality, that’s what makes him such a good main character.
This game really is a masterpiece, thank you so much for the translation!
(Just realized the game is from 2009, so it´s already been 13 year of its realize, guess this makes it a classic then, feels like im a bit late lol)
