Lucky Dog 1 Requests

Wondering how you can help with translations (other than paying me enough so I don’t have to do schoolwork anymore)?

1.)  Reading

Yep, just reading.  Well, and mentioning any grammar mistake or “Gian wouldn’t say this in this case” or “Giulio’s picture is on a Gian quote” is good, too.

2.) Comments

What I’m doing well, what I’m not doing well, “Oh, Gian’s so cute here!” or “I wonder what Ivan’s going to do next,” etc.  I love holding a conversation with LD fans, since they’re in such scarcity =)

3.)  Poke me

If I haven’t updated in a week, poke me.  Seriously.  I check comments like an obsessed thing, so your pokes will definitely get through.

4.) Editing

Editing isn’t just looking for technical errors – it is also making sure the dialogue flows as natural and consistent as possible through the script.  If you are still interested, there are several aspects of the translation I hope to pay close attention to:

  • English checking – basically what I said up above.
  • Japanese checking – making sure the translation is correct (not word for word of course, but the general gist of what is happening; an example is what happened in Ivan’s Route .  You’ll have to check the comments for details, but basically I misinterpreted what happened.)
  • Italian checking – checking that the Italian is correct.  By far the easiest.
  • 1930 Americanisms / Mafia lingo – Just watch a lot of gangster flicks and movies from that time period, lol.  Also, books.
  • Italian American-isms
  • simple Military / gambling lingo
  • New Jersey accent / dialect

If you are familiar with any of the above, please contact me by leaving a comment here with the first line being “Request – Editing” (so I can search for them easier later).  Though I won’t have anything for you immediately or any time soon, I’ll probably poke you in the future about asking you to look at the script.  Projected window is … say, 6 months.

Alternatively, you could also direct me to a good site that has a comprehensive list of any of the things listed, haha.  I can’t find a database for American dialects anywhere!

Others:

None at the moment.  Yay!

I know of that lj. Was my primary motivation for doing this translation. I’m also a bit wary of her raws because she has a habit of abridging and doesn’t always state it. I don’t know if that’s just for the route translations or the SS as well.

      I hadn’t really paid attention to her tokuten, though. I’ll sift through her pages anew, lol. Thanks for bringing it up ^^;

Hm. I didn’t really read it carefully, but yeah. If it’s the 1st / 2nd anniversary SS, I have those.

I think I’ve found a promising site for this sort of stuff, but it’s not in a language I’m most comfortable in. Well, we’ll see how dedicated to LD I am… *rolls sleeves

And, if u want the list of LD1 translation she has, go to her journal titled 'hmmm'
She post all her LD1 translation in a list, it's really convenient!
I'll try digging in some other Japanese websites then 😀

Whoa! I didn’t know someone was translating LD1 into English! I’m so happy to hear that! I have the game just because the premise is interesting, but I’m a bit apprehensive to play it because I read diddly squat Japanese. You are my goddess of BL game Q__Q

I hope you enjoy the game =) It’s honestly one of the best BL games out there, imo (“one of.” not “the.” I hope no one finds this comment and starts arguing with me about which is best XDDD)

No idea about the title at all. I only know what the pairings are and what stores they’re from. You can find a list of what I’m missing on this page, up top.

          Operation Chinese Forums is basically me going onto a Chinese forum and posting stuff so I can rack up enough points to download other stuff, and I think I’d spotted something that looks suspiciously like SS on it. …My Chinese isn’t nearly as good as my Japanese, though (despite me being Chinese), so I’m a bit reluctant to start on it ^^;

I hope your internships have gone well and that they end well, too. I can patiently await any new updates.

When you are available, could you let me know of a walkthrough to get through the game in Japanese? I’m finishing up all the routes at this time. I don’t speak Japanese but I love Lucky Dog so much that I decided to just dive into the game without a translation. (Thank you ever so much for your work on translating Ivan’s route & beginning Giulio’s route. I look forward to your updates as time and your life allows but definitely take care of yourself & all you need to in your life, first).

I have a 100% for both Ivan & Giulio’s routes but am on stuck on 97% for Bernardo’s route and would really appreciate a walkthrough to help me get to 100% for Bernardo & Luchino whose route I am on now. Any help from anyone is welcome.

        Thank you so much! ❤

          Hello! Thanks for reading! I’m glad you enjoy the game so much. And sorry about the whole internship thing ^^;

Mm. Bernardo’s and Luchino’s routes. I’m going to guess that for Bernardo, you’ve already chosen every single choice possible? Those two routes are tricky in that they have two hidden parts that … eh. I’ll give you the walkthrough anyways. HalfAdder’s site is always wonderful for BL/Otome game walkthroughs, so here: http://half-a.net/games1/dojin/luckydog1.html . The walkthrough I use is from the Fanbook, whose scans you can find in places online.

I think the scenes you need are Bernie and Lucchi’s hidden scenes. For that…:
Part 1: Visitor & Luchino, Visitor & Prisoner, Visitor (attack, go further) & Prisoner, Prisoner & Bernardo, Prisoner & Bernardo. Escape, go with Morgue Route.
Part 2 (Day 1): Push Giulio back(ジュリオを押し返す), (Make a save file here) Be concerned for Bernardo (ベルナルドを気遣う), Stay quiet(黙っている), Agree with Luchino(ルキーノに同意する), Look alone(一人で探素する).
          Part 2 (Day 2): We should get running!(とっとと逃げ出すべきだろ), Look at Giulio(ジュリオを見る), Ivan(イヴァン), Silence her(殺して口封じ).
Then, watch until the 3rd day morning to get Bernardo’s “rare” scene.

For Luchino, start from where it says make a save file, and:
          Part 2 (Day 1): Criticize Bernardo(ベルナルドを咎める), Agree with Luchino(ルキーノに同意する), Agree with Luchino(ルキーノに同意する), Look alone(一人で探素する).
          Part 2 (Day 2): Let Luchino go(ルキーノを行かせる), Trust in Bernardo(ベルナルドを信頼する), Look at Giulio(ジュリオを見る), Ivan(イヴァン), Silence her(殺して口封じ).
Then, watch until the 3rd day morning to get Luchino’s rare scene.

Tell me if this works/doesn’t work!

Thanks for responding so quickly! ❤ I'm very addicted to the game. It's made me extremely interested in learning the Japanese language but we'll see how far I go with that. It's my pleasure reading your writing/translations on this website. ❤ Thanks for all that you do. ❤

Bernardo's route was frustrating me & yes, I did believe I had picked every choice possible. I found out this morning that I needed a bad ending in Davian that to me was kind of hidden. In the route I had been on before when choosing that option, it did not result in a bad ending but I took another route, I chose that option & it did have a bad ending that time, giving me 1% more. The other 2% was in the Escape part. It was an alternate scene of the first CG for Bernardo, which I believe is the same as the walkthrough you gave to me (they looked the same from what I saw when I followed your walkthrough). I just got to it differently. Thank you so much for the link & writing out the walkthrough. I didn't expect so much, I just thought maybe someone would know of a link to help me. Thanks for taking that extra time when I know you are really busy. ❤ (I did get a lot of "new" scenes from your walkthrough to enjoy, which I loved. <3)

Thank you so much for Luchino's rare scene, I had not reached that one yet. I'm still working on that route (I'm currently at 52%). I was just wanting to make it easier than Bernardo's. I really do love Bernardo but I thought his route was complicated. Maybe that was just me?

Thanks so much for wanting to help & taking the time & effort to do so. ❤

I think I know which bad ending you’re talking about. I didn’t get it either the first time I’d played Bernardo’s route without a walkthrough because my luck was too high. You can only get it if your luck is lower than a certain threshold.

No problem. Any more questions, I’m glad to help =)

First of all, I want to say thank you for your LD translate! Your work is very helpful also for who isn’ t English, like me!
Talking about that, I’ m Italian so I can try to help you for the LD09-Ivan04 chapter problem!
Effectively, Gian says “Porco misera merda”. But it means nothing. I mean, I have equally figured out the meaning, but we don’ t actually use this way of speaking!
In this contest, it’ s more correct to say “Porco schifoso” (in english you say “big pig” and the correct translate is “porcone”, but in Italian we don’ t say like this. At least “Porcaccio”).
I guess if Gian meant something like “Misero porco schifoso”? Well, I’ m only making supposition…
I hope this could be helpful! (And sorry for my grammatical errors!)
Thank you again for your work!

Ooh… Thanks 🙂 I’d puzzled over the Italian a bit with dictionaries and such, and I ended up approximately translating the Japanese into Italian, which resulted in the porco schifoso XD What would “misero porco schifoso” mean?

What does “porcaccio” mean? You mentioned it earlier. I read that “porcone” can be used to mean “male whore”. It’s not used that way?

(Luchino’s route is going to be hell with all it’s cazzo and fanculo vs vaffanculo and stronzo lol. At least those are used correctly. I think.)

    Yeah, you’re right! ^_^’
Whatever, all the words which include or derive by “porco” or “maiale” (if in this contests) are used against perverts men (if they have the money for the whores or not doesn’ t changes anything). So, also “porcone” could means something like “male whore”, but in Italian we don’ t use it (it doesn’ t sounds good).

“Porcaccio” it’ s the derogatory form of “porco”. It’ s the same thing.

About the last question (If I have understood what are you asking >_<)..
Effectively, "l' uomo" can be translated "great man" in certains contests. The article -l' means "the". If it had been "un uomo" would have meant "a man", whit a general meaning ( -un = -a).
I haven' t seen the text, yet. So, for now I cannot help! Now I haven' t enough time, I' ll read the SS when I' ll have!
    Was helpful? Bye ^_^

    Hello!:)

Your work is brilliant, thank you really much for sharing it, I love this visual novel (especially because this is my first yaoi visual novel ever!:D), but I have a little trouble and I would really appreciate if you were so kind to help me!^^”

(I hope you can see this picture!) So my problem is that I don’t know why, but the visual novel runs in my computer a bit weird… as you can see, the Menu is correct (or you can’t sorry, but everything is okay), but the speeches are written with this… I don’t know how to call it. With these strange, meaningless characters. It wasn’t a problem, because I can’t really understand Japanese, and you attached and showed lots of pictures during your translation and when I had to choose from the characters, I was able to recognise them by their order, but now (I am after beginning Day 3) I am totally lost and I don’t know what are these and that’s why I can’t choose!D: So can you please help me by telling me the opportunities in order? Or can you help me to solve this problem, please?:3<

Thank your really much for your help and thank you for your hard and high-quality work!:)

I will try to help you as best as I can without a computer in front of me. They problem seems to be that your computer doesn’t have the Japanese language and characters set up.

The way you go about fixing this varies between OS though, so what I say here may not be helpful depending. The computer I am most used to setting up is XP, unfortunately, but the process should be similar.

Go to Control Panel and look for Region and Language Options. Under the Languages tab, choose to install East Asia characters. I also choose to change the Text Services and Input Languages to include Japanese and also to Extend Support to all programs. Finally, in Advanced tab, I choose Japanese to use for non-Unicode programs.

If you don’t have XP, then either try changing it yourself by looking for language options in your Control Panel and then setting what you can to Japanese, or by Googling or looking up on Aarin how to change your computer’s language to Japanese.

I need to change the Part 1 set up too. I’m sorry for not being of more help.

Hello~ First of all, big fan of your translations, I’m so happy you’re still doing this. *high fives all ’round*

Second, I was thinking about Bernardo’s saying, “Venomous snakes don’t hurry”. I’m not sure if you’ve found the answer you were looking for yet, but the English phrases that came to me are these two. “It’s a safe bet” and “Speak softly and carry a big stick”.

I’m not sure if they’re exactly what you were aiming for, but the latter seems more or less fitting. Anyway, hope I was of a little help ^-^

Hello~ Firstly, I am here to show my gratitude :3 Those who are fluent in Jap-Eng and take time to translate… stuff for us are just simply awesome :3 (well, especially when she is a fangirl~)
Another thing, I thought about Bernardo’s saying about venomous snakes. According to your explanation above (and my understanding), I think it’s about self-confidence more than power 😀
There is a British idiom like this: (have) more front than Brighton. It’s about (excessive) self-confidence that I think it might be what you’re looking for…
I am not sure though, because I’m actually a South-East Asian who is currently studying in Britain. Therefore my English is no way near mastery. I just hope this helps a bit.
Again, I really appreciate your contribution, and I always support. Please keep up the good work 🙂

If it helps at all, I have an elementary grasp of Japanese too! 😀 It’s not enough to read the entire script with, but it’s just enough to pick out some of the more obvious mistakes! So if you’d have me, I’d be more than happy to help out in the translation project _(:3 l L)_

Hi. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English and have proofread for my local Newspaper as well as a publishing company, so I could offer my skills in proofreading for your project. I’m also a born and raised American. However, I just know English but if that would help, I’d be willing to try. 🙂

I am a huge fan of what you’re doing here! I really appreciate that you provide high quality translations, as well as all the work you did to square things in terms of permission from the developers. The format looks fantastic, and tops anything I’ve found in any fandom. I’d love to help out with proofing, editing (English, my Japanese is at machine-translate levels of bad), or just sending you psychic beams of support and virtual snickerdoodles.

    Keep up the good work!

Please translate luchino’s route!! Pretty please? I’ve nearly read all the other routes. The lay out of this site is really great; it’s easy to use! Youre translations are understandable and read smoothly. I really appreciate that youre doing this.
