Silver Bullet

The bullet that pierced through you
Will eventually fall to the earth.
No one knows the destination of its trajectory.
The sorrowful cry of someone unknown.

The sound of you falling reaches my ears.
I quietly bury my hands in my pockets.

Strangely, there are no emotions.
I only watched the events play out before me.
This alone frustrated me.

If we could decide on one villain,
We could stand opposing each other with simple reasons.
That is why our fingers pull the triggers.

The bullet that pierced through you
Will eventually fall to the earth.
No one knows the destination of its trajectory.
The sorrowful cry of someone unknown.

The bullet that I fired
Will eventually hurt someone
And fall again in some unknown place,
Still stained with my sins.

You are not me.
I am not you. And that is all
We need to continue differing so much.

If we keep searching for a villain, there will be no end.
I will lay your heart to rest.
That is why I pulled the trigger.

The bullet that pierced through you
Will eventually fall to the earth.
No one knows the destination of its trajectory.
The sorrowful cry of someone unknown.

The bullet that I fired
Will eventually hurt someone
And fall again in some unknown place,
Still carrying my sins.

This finger, this arm, this body, this heart
Is yearning for the muzzle, the hammer, everything.
You, I, the world knows of
A quiet, secret end.

The bullet that pierced through you
Will eventually fall to the earth.
No one knows the destination of its trajectory.
The sorrowful cry of someone unknown.

The bullet that I fired
Will eventually hurt someone
And fall again in some unknown place,
Still stained in my sins.

  • The line “The shot that pierced through you / will eventually fall to the earth,” is interesting to me because of the kanji they use.  There’s a certain sense of inevitability that couldn’t be transferred, implying that “if it weren’t for gravity, it would fly on forever.”  An alternate translation I had considered was “will eventually give in to gravity.”
  • “I only watched the events play out before me” refers to watching the events play out like a movie.  Not sure if that got across clearly.
  • The third to last stanza has incorrect grammar on purpose.  It’s not an “this and that” kind of sentence, but more “this – no, this – no, this instead” kind of sentence so it’s all singular.
